This my second post in my newest series “How do I gain viewers on Virily.” I am going to focus today on some questions that have been asked of me related to improving your views on Virily.
- How do I become verified users?
- First Verified users are those who do not require moderation when they post. The original “requirements” to become a verified user had to do with both contribution (things you share on Virily) and commenting. If your comments were reported or you don’t follow the rules of the site they didn’t make you a verified user
- I do not know if this is, in fact, the case
- How long to moderate my posts?
- One of the things I remember from first started was that sometimes if I posted on Friday, it might 5 or more days before my posts were published.
- Since I started out writing two times a day on Virily, I could be 10, 12 and sometimes more posts ahead of the moderators.
- They always published my stuff; it just took time!
- Should I join challenges?
- In deference to Albert, yes you should.eSome of the writers on Virily do not join the challenges, many do.
- But if you join Albert’s challenges, HE ALWAYs reads your additions to the challenge!
Please remember let me know via private messages if you need to vent or express frustration about the speed of moderation or other issues you may have! I am happy to listen! I may not be able to help, but I will listen and if I can help I will help!
If you wish to become a verified user of Virily, remember that with power comes responsibility. You, as a writer are a reason Virily is still in business. Based on that remember the reality of the other side when you post. The writing site Reddit always reminds us to remember the human. While the Virily editors could certainly do a better job of communicating with us, we can do a much better job of communicating with the admins as well.

Now I just want to show my face here after you put my name there for a few days. I admit that I have indeed joined all challenges since the end of last year. How sad it is to imagine a friend who thinks “Why did he join the challenge but not with the challenges I started?”, that’s the reason.
As a fellow user, I really appreciate your willingness to receive vent from other users, especially new members.
After reading all the comments, what are your conclusions?
I really don’t have a set of conclusions yet. I am still struggling with what, and how right now
Alright, I fully understand.
Good info once again here Doc.
Thanks Kim. I will keep trying to make things better for everyone!
I am more a fan of “if it is making you happy then by all means do it” kind of person. Some young women I met in some groups I joined would usually ask how can they become successful in blogging. Poor girls think I am making a lot of money from it. And if I say I am only doing it for love, I get the kind of reaction that my brain translates as “duh” ?
That is an interesting way to look at some things.
that’s an interesting idea
Thanks Alex. I wonder if I can get the Admins to weigh in on that.
technically you don’t need admin buy in for this, unless you want the awards to be recorded on their end…
I was thinking about automating data collection. I don’t want to have to argue with the whiner crew.
if we are to get some admin attention, I’d rather it be on the dashboard than on awards, but that’s just me…
My gut is the dashboard is 20% manual right now so I am not sure they will ever be able to have it be real time again.
they could always hire someone who knows how to code to fix it for them, how hard is that?
There are 2500 plus users that log in once or twice a week or more. There are around 800 users that post twice a week or more.
Then, you have to track attribution (which they used to do but had to turn it off for performance).
But you do have to track people opening a post. Liking/commenting etc.
I would say 10-12 weeks, three maybe four sprints to get the dashboard fixed. Plus it would be two, three maybe four people in the springs (Design, Dev, Test and QA)
it would be hard to actually implement, but easy to hire someone or even a team to do it…
yes and no, you are looking at 35000 or more for a 4-week sprint. what would the site ROI be. I am not sure that they would have 35k in profits in a 5, 10 week period. I suspect that might be the profits for a year.
if folks lose confidence in the site, it will go under and then they’ll make nothing. if they fix the dashboard, then they could make even more than they currently do. think of it as an opportunity cost
I completely agree. The problem I suspect (this is wholly a guess) is that the cost of development (original) is still being paid for. They most likely got an initial injection of cash, and to build the site they are probably well past that original injection. Paying that initial cash back plus paying the admin team probably makes that amount of money more than they can support now.
I have no clue how much they’re making, but it seems like the site is getting plenty of traffic…
Very interesting post. I’m happy to read your post. I always get to know something new and interesting. I joined some of the challenges, but you see them a little late. But today I was pleasantly surprised, I have approved three posts ?
I am very happy to hear that (on the 3 new posts). I know it can be frustrating to wait. Challenges are something I struggle with.
Challenges are great for inspiration and new post ideas, but I am a bit behind with them, so I haven’t joined any of them lately.
I know that feeling. Doing the photo challenge was way more work than I thought it would be. I don’t do challenges anymore, because of that
haha… great idea!!!! this is excellent! i am excited
Thanks! It is important to keep the community moving forward!
i agree, we all want to have everyone moving forward not backward. it is not progress.
Why not celebrate successes! I can whine to my family if I am not happy and keep it off here. Thanks again for stepping up and taking the lead.
Well I would nominate your accountablilty series. You are sharing difficult things and holding yourself accountable for your success and/or well not success.
