I was talking to a blogger yesterday via chat who used to write for Niume. There are a lot of ex-Niume writers out there (since Niume is gone forever, there aren’t any current Niume writers). We were talking about the struggle the site had towards the end. It got me thinking about the reality of creating and maintaining a blogging site. For example, the first revenue source, and for most blogging sites the only revenue source is the application of, use of and delivery of google, facebook, Yahoo, Bing or other internet advertising companies. It makes it frustrating at times as you log into the site and it is filled with ads. It is interesting int hat you can refer, in your post and when you view the post to respond to comments, check what being advertised is.
For example, as Google does searching within your post, they look for keywords. Is a drill, in particular, a cordless electric drill from Makita on your shopping list? It will be on the site when you see this post. Mention Sea Ray boats? See an ad for Sea Ray boats. Oh, by the way, have you tried an instant Pot? See the ads below, and you will see one. Maybe, in fairness I listed three products in this post, so who knows which one will be selected. I am going to put a bunch of products at the bottom of this post just to see which ones get selected. Amazon focuses on the last thing you bought, and when you add something to your cart, what similar purchases also included.
Targeted advertising is interesting.
Gallo. Makita, Yale.
I wonder what ads will appear in my post!
By the way, I am interested in what you folks think, not about the advertising itself, if you get paid by Virily, then you have to accept the ads. The only way they can afford to pay authors and keep the site going is to generate ad revenue. Niume was going to die before the creator of the site passed away. Its ad revenue was declining.
Let’s see what happens!

Tried to play with keywords in posts on my first blog + search queries of different frequencies. There were not bad results in some cases, so I think that the proper SEO is important.
Search Engine Optimization is sometimes interesting when Google is involved. They search for a lot of different things.
If one is under the grid, then that person is vulnerable. It is likely they know more of me than I know of myself ?. No, I don’t bother myself with keywords, SEO and insights (altho since my professional experience was in sales and marketing, my eyes can easily catch figures). I just write, post and throw my thoughts to the universe. If somebody read it and say nice things, I say thank you and move on to the next. I get into a group of authors recently thru a friend but I am rethinking if I should be there. They are a serious lot ?. I just like to play where writing is concerned.
The interesting reality is, to truly be off the grid you would have to not be on the surface of the earth. You would in fact, have to be on the dark side of Pluto, and even then it is likely there will be fly by views of you.
True. But at least satellites will not cause as much interference on our privacy as FB, Google and the like.
Um
Ok
I will simply smile and nod at this point.
Oh good coz I will simply ? and ? at this point ???
Over the course of the next 3 years, there will be more than 40 billion new devices connected to the internet.
The places where you aren’t online, are shrinking.
Boat covers, slow cookers and instant pots from my side as well. Yes, I noticed how ads adapt to the content of a post. Even when I’m not on a post, like browsing the polls page, ads are often about the subjects I’ve been posting about.
I have some knowledge when it comes to SEO, I’d love to have my posts (and everyone else’s) appear more often on search engines, but there are factors that make it hard to happen. Of course, I’m talking of the content we publish here on Virily. It would be different on a personal blog.
Actually, i have some stuff on a personal blog that you can find in various search engines. But I do much better with the broader platforms like Virily, or others.
Some advertisement are a mystery to me. I stop and think, what makes them think that this is something that might interest me? Truly I don’t want to date anyone. My arms are full. Just hoping that message gets through! lol. (I probably just doubled those advertisements.
Dating, dating, dating! ?
I don’t care about that either, but I don’t mind seeing beautiful ladies from all over the world. I wouldn’t date any, but they’re way better than mycosis or weird-looking foods that are supposed to make me lose weight. I’ve never had onychomycosis in my entire life, yet I see so many ads about that. They just like to display the gross stuff. ?
I am sure they would argue it isn’t gross stuff, just advertising.
The advertising reality is that dating sites pay for advertising well. Ergo, there are a lot of their ads!

Like you said, the ads generate the revenue so I can’t despise them and still expect a payout…
in fact they do! just an interesting experiment to see..
how do ads follow us? elementary, my dear Anderson- cookies…
ad sense looks at the content of the post as well.
but they can’t follow you that way, just try and tailor the results based on the content you’re surfing…
Amazon tells me that I can get a boat cover or a slow cooker. What that has to do with your post I do not have a clue. I can only say that I do not have a boat and I already have a slow cooker. There is also an instant pot immersion circulator but I have no idea what that is and at $79 too expensive for me. So does it mean that Virily is doing well if there are people who will look at these ads?
Well, I mentioned a boat, an instant pot, and a drill. I went to disparate market types of purpose.
It does mean the site is integrated with Google ads very well. The success of a site is all about people clicking and buying off those ads.
Advertisements do not disturb me. In the beginning, I was a bit embarrassed, but now I have accepted with them.
It is how we get paid. I think it is interesting, how mentioning something creates the connection. I am going to play with that and see.
Advertising on Virilyu does not bother me … this is our source of income … I did not look at the graphic panel
I wonder how many people notice the ads now (authors) vs. how many (readers) notice.
If the truth be told I also do not always look dear friend
I suspect authors on the site, don’t often look.
Personally I find the ads frustrating but they are there, so I deal with them, by ignoring them.
it is a trade off, they (virily) have to make enough money to pay for the site, the admin team and so on. Then they have to pay the authors.
Money gots to come from somewhere.
