Making writing sites better and buying Sea Gull repellent!

Today is the poll revised to reflect the thoughts and input of the community. I did want to expand on two additional ideas from the comments. I realize that you can all read the comments, but not everyone has the time to do that so that I will have conversations from the feedback into the next post. The first is impressive I am not sure how the technology would work, but the idea is interesting. Return the edit button, but only let us edit two posts per month. I think that is interesting. I would love to see the edit button back, but with a specific rule that revised posts keep their previous views and comments, but as far as the site is concerned, it is a new post. There were a few people that misused the edit button by repeatably editing high view, with top comment posts and it skewed views for all users.

That behavior, of basically dropping views for virtually the entire site, is one of the contributors to them removing the edit button at that time. I posted several posts trying to get people to understand the impact of their actions. It didn’t work honestly, and the admin team pulled the functionality. I worked hard as did several contributors to my posts to get the edit button, and it was squandered by a few people that didn’t feel like listening. When the few impact the many, it isn’t a good thing.

The second idea is also exciting. Many sites have the concept of featured articles. A featured article would be on the page of the website. I know one of the things we could do is have a page for each of the categories on the site. When you go to that page, you would see perhaps a post on birds by someone. Possibly say an alphabet post on Mockingbirds. Maybe, in that scenario, does top posts by category rather than site full. It is an interesting idea and would, of course, love your thoughts on both ideas presented today in the comments.

The reality of the situation we are in (communication) is that no matter what things anyone puts forward is speculation. I can tell you that we have been able to ask for and get several changes from the site overall. Based on that, let’s do so so again. Pick the things that are critical for you; I will post the top ones tomorrow and include this one is most important to me category!

Sea Gulls need not comment today!

  2. Featured posts is an interesting concept. It’s a high quality article that will serve to attract people to access the site. It works in many sites including Hubpages vertical sites.
With edit button, the comments and views should remain.
