Lemongrass ~ 365 Photos Challenge #338 – 340

There is a piece of vacant land next to where I live. A portion of this land has been installed with a foundation but has not been continued with construction and has been abandoned.

Nowadays, often this land is only filled with reeds until I have to ask someone for help to cut it regularly because if it is not done, it will be difficult to see and check if there are snakes or other dangerous animals who like to live there. I myself have seen some snakes come and go to the vacant lot several times, including those who have visited my home several times.

Of all the grass, there is one plant that must not be cut, which resembles reeds but not, which I always remind the lawn mowers not to disturb it, the lemongrass plants.

Besides having many benefits, this plant also has many philosophical values. If it is a human being, it is an independent being, enduring living in a bad land with what he produces himself. He does not become a parasite to get nutrition, it also does not dry even if the rock beneath it. It is a person who chooses to face challenges by solving problems. If it is a human, it is a human who makes every effort to change things, not blame the situation. He does not take away the happiness of others, like parasites. He saw shortcomings, without blaming, without hating, without berating and giving examples of how to be a part of kindness.

Lemongrass also blooms but it is a rare event. Several times I planted lemongrass but it never flowered.

  1. I love the picture, Albert! The thought, of a snake watching you as you took the picture, made me laugh. Then I remembered you live in the world of many more dangerous snakes. Be careful about cutting down the vacant lot!!!

    • Thanks for the compliment, Doc. Also for your advice.

You have indeed imagined a funny thing.

Right now I am really alert and careful with snakes considering I don’t know anymore whether my body still has the ability to be immune to snake’s poisons like in my youth. My wife who is always fussy with tall grass in that vacant lot because she’s so afraid of snakes, even just to name it.

      • My wife is also in the I hate snakes club. We used to live near a pond in Indiana (our backyard ran up to the pond). Every year we would see the Common American Water Snake, and my wife wouldn’t go in the backyard for a week

  2. Hmm … drank lemongrass tea I guess … lol

Hmm … it seems like a strong plant but most grass are strong …
Chinese have a saying “can’t burn them all, once spring comes, it grows again!”

    • Connecting with lemongrass makes you healthy.

Yep! All types of grass are strong, from the smallest grass to bamboo!

I have to pay people to cut the reeds every week, at least two weeks. Longer than that I will disappear in the middle of it.
