  1. My own medical condition (genetic degenerative bone disease and DVT) are only marginally helped by my diet, but I strive for a balanced diet anyway. My wife and daughter need to eat high calcium, high vitamin D, and low-cal, though. I make sure they get plenty of milk and cheese and gluten. However, the gluten is mostly in the form of whole wheat and they both also eat oats and brown rice (easy on the rice). Most of what we eat is also homemade, which is far healthier than pre-packaged, store-bought stuff.

    • Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I’m sorry to hear about your condition! Have you written on gluten or dairy before? I’d love to see your posts on the topic since nowadays they are so controversial. I personally haven’t excluded any of them from my diet, but I’m always curious to learn more on this topic.

      • I think that I may have written about gluten here in the past. I’ll have to check. The big thing is that only about 1% of the population is gluten intolerant, despite the far larger number of people who try not to eat gluten. However, it is still better if the gluten comes from whole grain/whole wheat. Bleached flour is very close to worthless because 85% of the healthy substances are removed during the process of creating the bleached flour.

  2. My daughter is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, cashews, and pistachios. The soy milk that she likes is higher in sugar than milk, but lower in fat. We probably eat less cheese, which is high in fat, than we would otherwise.

  3. The last question was the winner! I think I love Andrew Zimmerman’s show, if it looks good, eat it! I do care about gluten-free (health concern not gluten allergy).

    • Thank you for sharing your opinion! I was curious about it because of my blog. I’ve noticed that some people don’t like words like “vegan”, “gluten-free”, etc., but I thought they are helpful for people to know whether that recipe would be useful for them or not. I guess I can’t please everyone. 😀
