Do you like fried green tomatoes? They are wonderful, breaded and fried light and crispy. The photo was taken from my summer garden a few years ago. I only grew two tomatoes that year. So I buy them in the store now. They are very easy to fry if you want to try them.
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 pound green tomatoes, sliced 1/2 inch thick
- 1/2 cup canola oil
- kosher salt
Place the flour, eggs, and cornmeal in 3 separate bowls. Dip the tomatoes first in the flour, then in the eggs (letting any excess drip off), and then in the cornmeal, pressing gently to help it stick.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium to high heat. Cook the tomatoes until golden, one to two minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel lined plate. Season with ½ teaspoon salt before serving
There was also a movie called Fried Green Tomatoes. It was very good. Kathy Bates and Jessica Tandy starred in the movie. You should watch it one day.

Now that your recipe is in place may I end up trying it all..now
I have to try this … it looks delicious
Thats the same one I use! Mmmm, I love them.
Really? I love these fried.
The only difference is I use two eggs. 😉
But I never really tried to do this-I’ll be right now
They are so good, you should try them.
I love them and saw the movie twice. Beautiful photo. I did not grow any tomatoes this year, but I have a few string bean and lots of salad greens
Yes the movie is a classic. Greens are so good from the garden.
Yes, so fresh when they are just picked. I have set myself a new record in salad eating. Have had one every day for 3 weeks!
I have had them, but I can’t recall what they tasted like…
The fried crispy batter and the ranch dressing I dip them in is where the flavor is.
I don’t recall batter or dip, but only the tomatoes themselves. This was twenty years ago and I can’t remember the taste anymore…
I’ve never tried them actually….but being a picky eater I am not sure I would l like them. Thank you for sharing though!
You really should and use ranch dressing to dip them in. 🙂
Hmm… just wondering, how does the green tomatoes taste lke without anything with it?
The fried batter is where the taste is and some dip it in sauces, like ranch.
I see … so they’re not sour or anything?
Soon, in a few minutes my daughter will make this for me!
Let me know how you like it. And they are great dipped in ranch dressing.
Unfortunately, she has some business today so tonight I can’t see the cuisine.
I’ve never tried green tomatoes before, but they look really nice!
Oh man you do not know what you are missing!
I think I haven’t really tried them, or at least not since I was little.
You should give them another try. 🙂
I put them in a sauce with cabbage, carfiol, sargarep, paprika and roots. We eat it as a salad in winter
Sounds different and delicious.
yes i love them and cook them all summer
I knew you would love them. 🙂
A great summer treat and an even better movie!
Yes you are right and the movie was cool.
Its funny, I remember not ever having Fried Green Tomatoes in the summer (my grandmother never made them, long story). After watching the movie, i tried them and realized I love them!
I never used green tomatoes that way …
Only when pickled with other vegetables, cucumbers, carrots and cauliflower are in the pickled food.
Love them, had them a lot growing up. Delicious. But everything is good fried.
