Again to find a fire within

Within the fire burning

the log ignited and

flames leaping, pushing driving

the air from where

it sits quietly waiting.

I am burning, the log shouts

but to or away from

the listening

ears that

cannot hear logs shouting.

I am burning,

but the eyes say

aren’t we all, on the inside.

Are we not victims of fire

that building

threatens us with

darkness?

I am burning

the log again shouts

So am I,

the eyes reply

and in the shifting sound

there is only crackling.

  2. Impressive poetry, Doc!
I imagine the poem to answer the need for alignment between inner awareness and the mind that relies on the five senses.

I don’t have a fireplace because there is no winter in my place but sometimes I burn a campfire in the yard and enjoy the flame, outside and inside.

    • It is the alignment within us. Truly an inner reflection. Fire becomes the danger within us, or the light by which we find our path.

Fire, both welcomes us and destroys. The very fire is destructive. It changes the state of the wood, or building or person as it burns.

      • Old Javanese philosophy called “Life is lit”, I don’t know which one is more precise, flame or lit or something else. You are right, and usually, fire comes from “outside” meaning the mind or emotion and light from the inside which means the heart.

Yes, the fire burns and damages anything, and it is a good symbol to describe “hell”.

  3. It was not long ago when I watched a big bonfire … this fire was not dangerous … I also saw a big fire that unfortunately did a lot of damage

  4. Yes I can get lost in the sounds of the crackling fire. Amazing how it does drive away the darkness, sometimes from the inside out.

  5. You speak of the fire and its strength and the suffering of those who burn it and did not imagine it if you have the power of fire this is my opinion and thank you for post

  6. Yep. A bonfire by the beach. And in a fire show. Fire is a fascinating thing to watch especially at night. Perhaps because it drives away the darkness and gives off the sense of protection and warmth.
