I have talked about the Marine Layer in San Diego County California before, but do you know what causes it?
The marine layer is a bank of fog created by Temperature Inversion. It is caused when a large body of water and the cool air it creates comes onshore and meets the warm air.
Here is my drive to work yesterday, and reaching the end of the marine layer. Yesterday the marine layer went inland 10 miles.
Enjoy!
From Hwy. 76 to Interstate 15.
I love this hill.. I need to explore it more someday.
Onto the freeway..
The rolling hills of Southern California. There are bright patches in the Marine Layer.
As we go higher in elevation the layer is more visible but you can see the light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.
Blueness!
And the end of the marine layer and post. It took me 30 minutes to get out from under the marine layer.
Have a great day!
The pictures are great Kim. There is something mysterious in the fog.
Thank you for checking them out!
I love the fog to fog lifting from first to last in the pictures. We have a similar issue in Annapolis but more actually out on the water. 🙂
Thank you Doc, sometimes it never reaches the shore.
yup, it seldom reaches the shore in Maryland 🙂 I guess its arms aren’t long enough!
I think we have that here near the coast, too. I notice it when I go south to the beach areas at the right times of day. I just never knew what it was.
Well I am glad I could tell you about it then. Thank you Barbara!
Another magnificent selection of photos Kim!
Thank you for taking a drive with me Paul.
Great photos….very nice shots! Thank you for sharing them with us 🙂
Thank you Mom, those moving shots are tough sometimes. I just put the camera on Auto.
Your journey with the fog is fun to watch even it can harm you.
Luckily it stays high enough to see to drive, thank you Albert.
You are always welcome, Kim. Please always be safe in driving.
Wow this is amazing. I guess it could be a little dangerous with the fog.
Very rare does it make it to ground level. Usually you can still see well enough to drive.
Good pictures! I think I hadn’t seen something like that before.
Thank you Angles, glad I could show you!
Really good photos, it’s interesting to see the fog lifting up.
Its hard to explain in words, I was hoping this would help a bit. Thank you.
