10 most popular cars on Scandinavian roads

What you should always take into account when driving in the Nordic countries? The list is not small: specific local nature conditions, a high probability of steep and narrow roads (Norway and Iceland), harsh winter weather.

What qualities are required from cars on such roads? The Scandinavians choose high driveability and functionality, a thoughtful approach to all, even the smallest, details. And, of course, fuel efficiency and causing the least harm to the environment!

So, let‘s find out about 10 most popular cars on Scandinavian roads in 2017-2018.

Norway  Volkswagen eGolf and BWM i3. By the way, it is curious and symbolic that “Golf” comes from the name of the “Gulf Stream”. As you know, this warm current has a strong influence on the climate of Norway. One of the reasons of VW eGolf popularity in Norway –  effective tax policy, where the cost of electric vehicles is lower than the ICE/Internal Combustion Engine equivalents.

Denmark Peugeot 208 and the last generation Nissan Qashqai. Peugeot 208 has a phenomenal number of sales in 2017-2018. And it’s curious that the Danish fire services in some cities prefer the last models of  Nissan Qashqai (see the photo below).

Finland Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford. Historically Finland was one of the first successful forays into European markets for Japanese cars’ manufacturers. First Toyota cars arrived there in 1963. As for Volkswagen and Ford, they were the leaders of the Finland car market in 1958, so the classic is forever and stays actual in 2017-2018!

Sweden Volvo XC60, Volvo V/S90, Volkswagen Golf. According to these facts, Swedes choose safety and comfort, because Volvo continues to be of the safest cars in the world ever built! And the Volvo XC60 was awarded by The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Volkswagen Golf = easy to drive, comfort, taking into account your individual wishes.

Iceland – Toyota. Icelanders tare in solidarity with Finns in this matter!

So now you can imagine what cars will be popular in Scandinavia in the future.

Some final remark: retro cars are also popular in the Nordic countries (I saw this one in Stockholm):

  1. Very interesting and informative article! I don’t know much about cars, but I like it that they are focusing on cars that are less harmful to the environment.

  2. Love the pictures! I have been a car nut since I was 14 years old! Not that I wanted fast cars but safety was the thing for me.

I guess I am more Sweedish than my Danish ancestors told me!
