Bulgarian yogurt has unique nutritional, dietary and medicinal properties. It’s creamy and has mildly sour taste.
It’s one of the best probiotics out there. For yogurt to be considered of the Bulgarian variety, it needs to be made with two specific starter bacteria, Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus. The bacteria in yogurt prevent the growth of harmful bacteria that cause bacterial infections and diseases. It is also beneficial for the digestive tract and immune system. What’s more, probiotics have a positive impact on your breath, skin and weight.
Never heard about such yogurt before, thank you so much for sharing!!!
I am glad it was a helpful post!
This looks tasty…..
Thank you so much! Do you like yogurt?
I do not eat yogurt but this looks tasty.
Thank you, Carol! I’m not a big fan either.
My favourite yogurt is labeled as “Balkan-style” so I imagine it’s pretty much the same as your Bulgarian yogurt. I like this much better than Swiss style or even Greek.
Sounds good! I found this video today, there are some useful tips on how to choose yogurt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IN2yFQFVDbc
Post that adds my insight into yogurt. I routinely consume it only… too little know about it.
I’m happy it was useful!
Of course, Ellie
I love yogurt so much. I have greek yogurt every day because it has become common in the US. I love Icelandic yogurt, too, but it is not common and very expensive. I would love to try Bulgarian now, one day as well!
That’s great, Sally! I’ve never tried Icelandic yogurt!
So wonderful and healthy!
Thank you!
Excuse my ignorance is there a difference between Bulgarian yogurt and Greek?
Generally, greek yogurt is thicker/creamier.
Thanks for asking. I was ignorant too. 🙂
Everybody knows about Greek yogurt and cheese, but we have our great Bulgarian alternatives too. 🙂
