Lady Gaga recently revealed she has fibromyalgia. In Gaga: Five Foot Two her upcoming (22nd of september) Netflix documentary, she will reveal her struggles with the disease.
“Fibromyalgia” comes from the latim “fibro” that means fibrous tissue and two greek words “myo” and “algia” meaning muscle and pain.
Generalized musculoskeletal pain, constante fatigue, body sensitivity, rigidity in certain parts of the body, headaches, sleep disturbances and cognitive disorders, these symptons are enough to understand how it is live with fibromyalgia, a chronic disease of unknown cause that has a tremendous impact on the patient’s quality of life.
I have a friend who suffers from it and I have witnessed her battle against the disease, it was very difficult to diagnose because it cannot be recognized by diagnostic testing and there are days that she can’t even get out of bed due to severe pain. The only treatment she has is to reduce the symptons.
It is difficult to make friends and family understand what someone with fibromyalgia is going through. Many people don’t understand the disease, and some may think the condition is imagined. By making her story public Lady Gaga bring into the spotlight a disease that has been often misunderstood and maybe it is an open door to the future.
The first time I ever heard of this ailment was when I met a lady who worked at an organization where I was working a temp job. I did some additional research to learn more and all I can say is that I pray for the afflicted. It’s horrible!
Very informative post!!!!
I am not much aware about it, thanks
I suffer from this condition, and physical therapy has helped me learn how to ease my pain. Go to the sport section in most stores and buy a deep massage roller, and roll on it the areas that hurt you. It hurts but afterwards pain is gone or almost gone. Really!
Thank you! I will recommend It to my friend.
I have suffered for many years. So frustrating when there is no cure. Only treatments to try and hope for the best.
Ohh Carol, I am sorry to hear that. Hope you get better in the future.
It is a day to day challenge, no cure as you know. Management is all we can do.
