Rain and more rain over the weekend. But the birds do not seem to mind at all. I watched this tiny hummingbird on my deck feeder. I was finally able to get a decent photo of him sitting on the little perch taking a break.
This one is called a Ruby-throated hummingbird. The males have a red throat.
Hummingbirds can fit in your hand, they are so tiny. Always look forward to seeing these magical and entertaining birds each year. Amazing how they go on their annual migration and return to the same feeders year after year.
Here is one of many fun hummingbird facts. A hummingbird’s wings beat between 50 and 200 flaps per second depending on the direction of flight, the purpose of their flight and the surrounding air conditions. Now that is fast. Stop and think about that for a minute. 200 flaps per second!

You are so kind, always glad to see you visit for my photos as well. 🙂
Outside of my commitments, other social media pages, and weeding out Virily notifications I try to stop in when I can : )
Hummingbird quiz, tulip quiz please!!!!!
I mean, if you are taking requests…
I did post a nature quiz yesterday with just a few questions. It has been awhile since I created one and have had problems in the past. It was sort of a test. It seems to have turned out ok so I will do more. Thanks for the suggestion.
I loved the quiz you shared – who hooo! I haven’t done a quiz in a long time because of all the issues, if your next one works, I may try another one. (Quiz of mine, yours I will try!)
Good photo, some photographers catch these birds in the air. They would need a very fast shutter speed
I’ve never seen a hummingbird
Thanks. I have some of them in mid air. I would like a better lens one day.
Beautiful pictures. The wings are moving very fast. These small birds are very durable.
Thank you so much. They are moving very fast indeed.
I wonder if that hummer is cold in the rain?
No, they are used to the rain.
Very cute bird. You can make a quiz or share more photos of this bird.
Thanks, I just made a quiz. 😉 And will make more soon.
Haha, you should absolutely make a quiz about the birds and flowers in your garden!!
Lovely photo! 🙂
Thanks I just might have to do just that.
Make a quibble quiz, dear Carol … it will definitely be very interesting …. I can hardly wait
Thanks I will work on a quiz soon.
Wow you were indeed lucky to catch this picture of this tiny little bird. And on top of that, you already have hummingbirds in your back or front yard. Here, they are not around yet even though we are in May atthough we have several robins flying around although no cadinals or blujays . But the weather is slowly getting warmer with 20 degrees centigrades today. At least the nights are still cool enough to sleep comfortably.
Yes I was indeed. I watch them all the time but it is another matter to get their photo. I slowly got out on the deck, in the light rain and was patient. Finally got it! I have these in my backyard at the feeder and on some of the blooms. I love the cool weather.
I do not like cool weather Carol.
Spring, only without rain is beautiful time for me and my health.
