These are 2 Swans at Puketutu Island by Mangere Bridge. One White one Black
This has been the only White Swan I’ve seen and haven’t seen one since.
Once there were White Swans but they didn’t survive, the male White Swan didn’t help the female Swan. The Black Swan males help the female Swans and that is why the Black Swans survive in New Zealand
Love these swans, not sure how I missed this photo!
How interesting … with us, most of the swans are white … very rarely there is a black one …. beautiful picture dear Pamela
Nice to see black and white swans in this image.
Thanks Deepizzaguy, there is only one white swan and I haven’t seen that Swan for a while.
Thank you for telling me about what you think happened to the black swan which are rarely seen.
ahhh yes this is nice for black and white… you gave me an idea.
Thanks Mavic, thought about showing off the pair, Black and White Swans I haven’t seen that White Swan for quite a while.
maybe the white swan doesn’t like to go under the sun… she might become black swan too. ??
I see a black swan for the first time. In our country, we only have white.
Thanks so much Vidocka, yes, the white swans are dying out and my 1st view of a white swan.
Really nice contrast!
LOL, why are the white swan males more selfish?
I wonder … 😕
Thanks so much Alibb, the White swan female looks after the eggs on her own. Where as the Black Swan male takes turns with the female to look after the young. Hence in NZ some White Swans have not survived in NZ
That’s interesting …
I guess its like families now, both husband and wife have to work and then take care of their kids …
thanks for the info 🙂
I did not know there were black swans.
There are only white people in Serbia.
Their young ones do not grow gray.
Greetings and thanks for the text and photo.
Thanks Robin, now the Black Swans are taking over in NZ.
A beautiful picture of gorgeous birds. I find the swans one of the most elegant birds in the worlds. We also have several white swan and a few black swans that are protected and stay on and around the Ottawa river not far from Gatineau. They are usually accompanied by ducks and or the Canadian geese depending on the weather. I did not know the fact that the white male swan did not help the female. I wonder why and I wonder if it is the same here in Ottawa-Gatineau. Nonetheless I enjoy watching them especially with their chicks which they keep under their wings until they are ready to go in the water.
I just saw a movie about Swan Lake in the South Island explaining why the White Swan is dying out. I love both types of Swans black or white and I do like Canadian Geese too. My first time I saw the Canadian Geese was in Lake Hakanoa, Huntly and I thought they were a type of Swan.
Impressive image, Pamela.
Hmmm… Behavior determines the continuation of life…
So true, we should all learn from it. Thanks Albert
wow
what a wonderful picture!!!!
Thanks so much Doc, pleased you like it
You have an eye for images. But catching a black and a white swan swimming together, is amazing!
