We all love Siberian huskies. Seems like they hypnotize us with their stunning blue eyes. They are cute and fluffy. But, what happens when they come back from trimming? They might not look as cute as you would think.
As you might know, huskies are used to snow and cold environment. Since we like to keep them as pets and we don’t have Siberian climate, there is something that needs to be done. Trimming the fur is so important for these dogs. Their dense fur is ment to keep them warm, and they really don’t need it. Although it is of practical reasons, this puppy looks kinda funny and I just had to share it with you.
What do you think? Is he still looking cute?

WOW. That’s all I can say. I would never let anyone shave me like that (I like my fur).

Ah darn. Do not do this to a Husky.
I am a master groomer. Please do not do this to a Husky, Malamute, German Shepherd, Akita, Chow Chow, or any other dog with a “double coat”. You think it helps keep them cool, but this is false. They actually get hotter. I mentioned the double coat. This is there for a reason. In the winter months the “undercoat” comes in. This is a fine short hair, keeps the dog warm in the winter months. If you live in a warm climate year round, the dogs under coat will not get as thick. In the spring they shed the undercoat, to help cool them.
Now a word about the “guard hairs”. Those extra long colored hairs that make the dog beautiful, they aren’t there to just make the dog prettier. They are a hollow hair. It creates an air conditioning for the dog. If you shave the guard hairs off the dog gets too hot. It can easily get over heated, this can lead to death.
What you need to do for a husky is bath at least once a month, use a conditioner, and an undercoat brush like the furminator. It will take out all of the undercoat, leaving the guard hairs. I hope this saves some dogs.
This info is very helpful. I would recommend you to create a post gathering this all information. I believe that it will help many.

We had a dog before that was a mixture between a Husky and a German Shepherd.
She was gorgeous!
My experience is that they adapt to climate and environment very well. (We have cold and snowy winters and hot summers. In fact, we have all four seasons.)
Important is that you brush them regularly and bath them as Kim said, especially during warm periods.
