Personally, I’m not a big fan of beans and legumes, because most of them are difficult to digest. However, foods like peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas, and soybeans, are ideal depression-fighting foods because of their content of antioxidants, probiotics, vitamins, minerals, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids.
They contain lithium which is often used to treat mood disorders. Also, antioxidants and probiotics are considered natural mood-boosters that can calm anxiety and fight depression. What’s more, various studies have shown a strong connection between the bacteria in our gut and our mental health.

How to eat them
There are many ways you can consume beans and legumes: you can prepare bean stew or soup, or add the beans to salads and rice dishes. You can also make hummus; just combine mashed beans, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.
What is your favorite way to eat beans?
