Connected medical devices have three distinct types of connections. The first is the device itself connects to the internet on its own. The link can be via wifi or cellular. These devices record the information for the Doctor to review, and while capturing can directly and automatically send the information to the Doctor. These devices tend to not be inside the human body, but rather are worn or attached to your clothing as you walk, run, or move around your day. An example of this might be a pulse monitor or a blood oxygenation monitor.
The next type of connection is either wifi or Bluetooth connection to your cellular device. In this scenario, the device can be worn, or it can be implanted in your body. The device then stores data, and when your phone is in range, it uploads information to the phone. In the case of an Apple Watch, the data remains on your device. But there are newer devices that capture information all day, and during the night, or once or twice a day, uploads the information to the Doctor to be reviewed.
The last type of device is worn or implanted, but has a dongle that is connected to your home internet connection. This includes personal safety devices (such as devices designed to allow someone to call for help). This device goes with you wherever you are, and when in the range of the home connected device it uploads the stored data. That is then uploaded to the medical profession for them to review.
It should be noted that the first type of sensor/medical device also can connect to your cell phone for transmission and that the first two are used for urgent medical attention issues. The 3rd is more often used as a failsafe.

the reality of such devices is interesting.
Thank you to everyone that responded to the poll and left comments!
Thank you for providing providing three ways medical devices are connected. I didn’t know of some of them. They come in handy.
They do, people are scared of some of this stuff and they have a right to be. But the reality is we have to do something.
Yes, very useful and informative.
Thanks Pam!!! The reality of medical devices is a growing field!
There are some amazing and very useful devices!
Medical science is “keeping up with the joneses” to quote the old US quip.
The advancements in human care continue to move quickly.
Very interesting and useful medical devices. I am not sure that they are already used in our country.
i suspect many are, but probably not widespread yet.
Many of the medical devices have saved lived.
I am trying to share smiles. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
nice!
when I was a teacher I had a jar on my desk.
when the kids were happy I would open the jar.
They would say Mr. A what you doing.
Capturing smiles I would say!
Then when it was time for a test or the class was frustrated, bring out the bottle and let lose the smiles.
worked once a year!
This technique is completely unknown and incomprehensible to me, dear friend
it is the new reality i am afraid for many people.
But this is dangerous for us ordinary people, dear friend
it is you are right. we must be careful
Today is such a time that we have to be careful every step of the way, dear friend….when I was young life was more beautiful and indifferent
yes it was easier in the old days. we are where we are now though because of then!
But I lived in communism only we had TITA
in that case, you had it much tougher than most by far.
We lacked nothing at all … if I think back I lived better than I do now
that is interesting. I remember being in Berlin in 1972 it was scary coming from the US to a walled city.
This is a special story …… Berlin was divided into western and eastern (Russian) … there was a totalitarian communist system …. it was very mild here ….. Tito resisted the Russians in 62 …. as I can see in history it was very tense at that time and not much went missing until the 3rd world war …. the Russians wanted to occupy us like Czechoslovakia but they changed their mind at the last moment
was interesting all the way around. Tito was an interesting person.
He really was an interesting and striking person …. you may remember his funeral … there were delegations from all over the world and many presidents
from the outside world it was interesting to see what he was doing.
All I know is that I personally did not miss anything … I had a well-paid job that I never had to fear when I would lose her like today, completely free health care, freedom of movement …. but it was true that it was this increasingly artificial … the question of how long would it take
i think a lot of people in the US felt that way as well about jobs now that are gone forever.
what was is no more.
And it will never be that way again, dear friend
i am not sure it ever was that way. The perception of a forever job was an illusion at best.
We have many pensioners who have been in one factory for 40 years and have earned a pension there
we do in the US as well, but the concept of forever job and factory jobs don’t always match
Now it’s harder only then you stopped working today and you had another job tomorrow …. today it’s science fiction …. you can be happy to have a job but whatever it is just to have a job you can be happy
i think the world is vastly different now, and changes faster now.
Let’s laugh more so we will prevent some wrinkles. If necessary, these devices help some of them for the benefit of human health.
laugh more wrinkle less!
thanks that was the goal of the last question!
How about those devices which are implanted?
they still either connect to an external dongle or a cellphone. Pacemakers have a connection to a controlled dongle. Although sadly they have been hacked.
In neuro surgery they have been using a chip in the brain of patients with Parkinsons to control movements and it is operated it with a remote. Somehow I feel it makes a human a puppet.
That disease (Parkinson’s) robs people of motion. Being able to walk and stand without shaking is the greatest gift.
the chip cannot be controlled remotely so the puppet part isn’t possible.
SCIENTIST: don’t be stressed! some rocks become diamonds under extreme pressure
