Well begun, Mary Poppins said, is half done.
We have several authors posting, and from what I hear, there are several posts in the queue awaiting moderation as we move through the overall improvement of the site. I will share the link to the last two posts about ways to bring new authors onto the site. One of the proposals (the first one) is being dropped because there were several authors concerned with that one. A few authors agreed with it but didn’t feel they knew any other writers to nominate, so in the end, it is going away.
The Three Options are
- Reopen referral links, and the referring author then vouches for the new writer.
- Replacing inactive (2.5 or more years) authors with new authors
- They are having a vetting process (the new author submits their first two posts) before they are allowed on the site.
The first one is the one that has the most objection, so it is gone. I will share numbers 2 and 3. I am interested in your thoughts on these two options. Which one do you think is the best option. Or, as has been the case for the past and will be going forward, if you have a better idea, please share that better idea with the community.
So today, modifying the poll to have this one is interesting; this one is the best option going forward. Yes and no is too hard to interpret. If you feel like there is another way that would be better, please respond to the third poll question, and then in the comments, add the other way we could add new authors to our site. The more content we get published, the more views we will have. The more views, the happier the admins will be, and the more revenue the site will have.

When you say, “Replacing inactive (2.5 or more years) authors with new authors” , I presume you mean to allow new members join, to the number of accounts that have been inactive for 30 months. I think it’s a good idea, though I’m not sure what is the relevance of the number of old inactive accounts.
What I would ideally like to see happen is, that admin clarify and re-publish the rules, then allow new sign-ups (to whatever limited number suits them, if necessary). And whoever flouts the rules be given one warning and then banned on repeat offence.
Currently, the (in)actions of our admins (I’m assuming we’re still talking about Alex and Branka, though I am not sure about this any more) do not suggest they are interested in growing views. And since that is the only means of maintaining and growing site revenue, it raises some larger questions. Let’s not forget that our Macedonian admins are not the same as the Estonian owner.
Publishing the rules would be simply, amazing. I would love to know what the actions that will be undertaken, what we are and are not allowed to do.
I have no idea on the reusing old accounts. I suspect it is more to reduce the overall cost of the site. (old archived accounts would be removed).
thanks Norman – good points for thinking.

i am wandering to that video right now!
i love their voices! wow! i have to say the opening pan with the gator, made me stop for a second
That jumped right out at me as well. So are we going to seek new writers – is that the plan?
that is what I am asking the admins, but who knows if they are listening now.
I agree that we could replace inactive members with new members. I have noticed a lot of inactive members in recent days (they have all been members for more than two years). They had a lot of posts approved.
yes some of them appear to be spam accounts. but yes there are quite a few that were published today.
Maybe this is a stupid question but how does it look like spam?
it appears to be a page from a product manual rather than something someone created with the intent of sharing.
Thank you for the explanation. Strange that admins approve such posts.
all the admins do is confirm the post is not copied from another online location and pasted here.
(plagiarism)
they don’t do anything else.
Thank you very much for the clarification. I didn’t know how the admins check this.
waooo really a great pol monster!!!!
yeah the poll monster bites me often!
The poll monster is very hungry. Thanks Doc! I am onboard with most anything these days.
the poll monster pops up more often now
Yes it does, these are not good times. Trying to find something positive.
positive I have some. views are up a little! not a lot but a little.
Outside views or inside view?
a little of each, a couple of writers have dipped a lot, but for the most part internal and external views are a little higher.
