The joy when you get to see what you learnt in school

Geography was my favourite subject and my interest continues. There is always that satisfaction when I get to see what I studied in school

Our trip to Kashmir years ago provided me an opportunity to personally see the source of a river. And that was Verinag  – source of the river Jhelum which has a length of over 700 km. .

The basin of the source is tiny  – just a few square feet. I saw loads of fish swimming in there.  The guide explained its route in detail.  This river feeds two countries. There is a gorge through which it passes to Pakistan.

I cannot but marvel at the possibility of a river having a source that starts with just a few sq. ft.

      • For a spring that one is very large. Most of ours around here are called seeps, they trickle out and evaporate, but we actually ran a fishing resort in Arkansas, and lived on a spring. It gushes thousands of gallons of water and empties into the White River. The source is about 5 feet wide.
