Let’s start today with what’s at the bottom of the aAstroreality coffee cup. So, that is the picture that goes with today’s post.
Movers: movers come in two forms on Virily. The first kind brings you, other users, who tend, because of the mover commenting; they also tend to comment.
The second kind is a little harder to measure completely, but they bring other external users when they share via social media.
All of the data is collected over ten days. In this case, because of the outage yesterday, it reports 11 days, but only ten were measured.
I picked 20 authors and watched their posts.
- Here is the methodology – I log into the user’s posts over the day ten times. During each login, I note the number of comments, who has commented and the number of views.
- I do not share that users post that day on social media.
- Based on this model, without access to a little more site data, everything in this study is more than 5% potential error rate. I would put the error rate at +/- 10%
In all cases, the movers help your posts. There are several authors who impact posts as well. I am going to limit this list to the top 5 for now. CarolDM and Ghostwriter would end up on both lists just to be fair. They are the top movers on the site. I also did seven the last time, but this time stayed from the lower users because I would have Ghostwriter and CarolDM twice (not that you two don’t deserve that. It’s just that you end up with a repeat list of four before you get a new name). To get to 7 movers I would need a list of 9 total users.
So Comment Movers!

- Albert Widjojo
- Alex Ledante
Social Drivers

Given that you have to blackbox your survey, I think ~10 is a very acceptable standard deviation
I did that based on your excellent suggestions from the last time. I do listen, just not well!
I find that extremely difficult to believe…
well since the comment was in the realm of the middle.
Do you doubt that I listen?
Do you doubt that you had a good idea or suggestion?
Or that either of us is a real person 😉
I doubt that you don’t listen. I would like to believe that both of us are real but I can’t prove it either way…
Well I do promise I am not a Russian bot!
Listening is hard at times. We enter conversations with our bias, and for the most part leave with our bias!
If you aren’t a Russian chatbot, then why do you always end all your conversations with “Spasibo, tovarisch”?
I am most concerned about the biases that I don’t know that I have
as a Russian bot I advocate early and repeated voting!
I would never end a phrase with comrade.
As for the reality of bias – I will go with the Bryon Nelson quote.
“if you don’t like your bias, loosen your grip on the club, before you swing!”
I try to avoid any sort of bias, as this limits my options. Better to trim my options down rationally, as opposed to knee jerk rejections…
🙂 John Boyd always said “change the orientation of the observer and the bias shifts as well>
yep. and then there is always managing expectations
ah the project manager rises! the reality of expectations!
I was being groomed for the PM track once upon a time
Interesting post and information. I was expecting something like that
It really didn’t change much from the last time I did this. I won’t be doing this again for a long time, my busy season at work started already
Thats interesting but I think in a way I take Virily as it comes, one day at a time. I am happy to visit others posts and learn what ever I can.
Pam, that is exactly the way this post was intended. Simply, that I had time to watcha nd see but also to let people know that what they have to offer is critical!
I’m not paying attention to these things, dear friend
I understand that you write because you want to share!
Know them all very well and their names keep showing up as they continue to post. I try to do my part as much as I can but my plate is always pretty full with all the work I do online to keep bringing in some kind of income so I cannot be here every day but I do attempt to show up at least twice a week now.
There are many people that move posts as well. I love your state and your rock and roll series. Who knows, if I could go through and get more data you might be a mover already. I am locked to what I can collect currently.
You do a lot of observing on the site it appears from your posts. Thanks for the data.
Thank you – you are the comment leader by a lot Carol!!!!
One thing I didn’t mention, sorry. I watch the users for 5 days to get their average daily views. Then i do the actual measurement.
