As a technologist, my job is to look over the horizon. The issue I see in front of us now is two-fold. Based on that, I often find myself ahead of what people are doing. I adopted the integrated phone projector three years before they hit the mass market—the same for 3d printers. I will say that some interesting things are coming that are in my eyes going to be game-changing, and I thought it would be fun to share the top things that are going to be out this year.
- Aguadrone – they are testing the product now. It can land on water and includes a modular drone approach. Modular drones allow you to remove and replace the drone’s primary function, such as sonar, 360-degree camera, and waterproof camera in the case of the Aguardrone. There is also the capability of using the Flir cameras, but those require a larger drone.
- Hinui, the first connected telescope, literally uses your pheon as the controller and using the onboard camera, you can take pictures of the sky!
- MowRo – an automatic lawnmower. This product can mow up to a ¼ acre easily. (it does require multiple recharges to do that. Object detection, the ability to mow every other day or every day if you want to, give you the best lawn in the neighborhood while you rest in the hammock and drink lemonade!
- Goovis Young a new personal theater from the makers of Goovis. But now, they will precision grind the lens of your theater to your prescription!
- Snapmaker 2.0 is a 3d printer, a laser engraver, and a CNC carver. This means you can create anything your heart desires and print it!
- Ambassador is an earpiece, but it also automatically translates up to 155 languages.
I know a few of these are repeats. All of these are expected to ship this summer or fall. There are many other exciting technologies out there. The world of personal cinema (Goovis) has expanded and now includes intimate theaters (several projectors). The portability of this technology is truly amazing. With the expanding push towards 5g, more and more people will have the bandwidth to make these devices even more functional.
Feel free to make suggestions of technologies that interest you in the comments!

So many interesting inventions!
there really are so many cool things! the interesting thing is that all of them have 2-3 month delays because of covid!
Sometimes, the extra time can be a good thing.
that is very true, sometimes it is the amazing things that are created!
#2 and #6 are the best ideas to me.
number 2 is one i’ve been waiting for
We got our lawn mown by a person but your automatic lawn mower would put him out of business…I guess that is coming.
i suspect what you will see if the automated lawnmowers deployed and managed for people by the people currently mowing lawns.

Science-fiction concepts of the yesteryears are now becoming a reality. Soon… we may have fully functional KITT 2000… if Tesla haven’t done that yet.
Tesla’s newest innovation is voice command inside the car. We shall see!
It all sounds amazing and very interesting, I am glad you answered the questions about the glass window. That is so very beautiful. Notre Dame must have many such lovely windows.
we went inside an were in awe (16 years ago). Most of the stained glass survived the fire.
Very interesting technology. I would have an automatic mower. I saw her at my neighbor’s and I’m thrilled.
i saw them at a home show in downtown dc, it was really cool and worked pretty well!
I agree. I see more and more of them. So I guess they really have to do well.
i suspect as we head down the path of more and more people having less time, the automatic lawnmower is a great application of intelligence!
Hinui sounds like my kind of technology. Would be awesome to photograph the sky.
Love the photo, stained glass is incredible.
it comes from Notre Dame Cathedral Paris.
they were undamaged in the fire.
thanks, a friend of mine is their CTO we’ve been arguing sky photography for the past year!
Interesting technologies. But I would not like an automatic lawnmower as I do not even like an automatic vacuum. They take exercise away from me… But one thing I am really interested in is that gorgeous pane glass photo that you have put on as an eye catcher. It is as I said absolutely beautiful… Sorry Doc but I tell it like I feel and or see…
i am fine and happy you told it as you see it.
that window was my wife’s picture taken inside of Notre Dame Cathedral Paris France 16 years ago!
