Yesterday I posted about a visitor on the roses in Dustin’s garden. You can read it HERE if you missed it.
I asked a question about the critter found on the rose. I was very curious as to what it was and did my research. And the answer is….. a Moth, actually it will develop into a Tussock Moth.
You never know at first look when you see a caterpillar. I always hope they will turn into butterflies. But not this time. I will keep looking.
Thank you to those who participated in my poll. More to come.

It’s awesome how photography can make us learn more and more about the world around us.
Yes and I am always learning from nature Ellie.
I like roses very much.it is sign of lovely feeling.
Yes I agree, thanks.
Haix … I still rooting for it to turn into butterfly :/
I know, I was hoping as well. But I will not give up.
Now I will be in the post yesterday. I love them and I’m a fan of the roses.
Oh thank you. I love them as you know too.
He is one cool looking dude. Love the roses!!!!!!!
Yes he is Kim, always cool to find out what they are. Thanks!
Yesterday I correctly answered your post
Thank you very much my friend lado.
With great pleasure, my dear friend
Butterfly and moth, one belongs to day and the other belongs to night. Both are beautiful. Yet, we commonly see a moth during wakes.
Well hello there my Pixie friend. Always good to see you drop by. Yes, they are both beautiful. Never associated moth with wakes. Interesting.
I always see one. Not in my mom’s wake. My brother said it is because the light attract them. Maybe that is true. Or maybe that is our loved one saying hello ?
I choose to believe the latter. They are always around us.
Nice! Although it is always safe to guess moth there are many more moths than Butterflies!
Love the picture with the caterpillar enjoying some rose-colored lunch!
Yes but I will keep hoping for a butterfly. Thanks, I almost picked that rose until I saw him.
I have a high school friend who is the naturalist for a state park in Indiana. He posts pictures (i think Photobucket but i don’t remember) of every caterpillar he comes across int he forest.
He always posts a selfie with butterflies to be!
Wow that would be a great job for me!
He has been doing it since we left college and wouldn’t change his job for anything.
Wonderfull rose its romantic
Thank you for your comment.
Any time ????
Unfortunately I guess the wrong one in yesterday poll.
That is ok, now you have learned something, as I have too.
Thanks for your visit, that was a great honor for me 🙂
You are so welcome, I am honored as well.
Unfortunately, I answered wrong. I’ll have to learn a lot about crawlers ?
That is ok, now you have learned something, as I have too. I am learning all the time.
I agree. We learn throughout their lives.
I think about the shape of the caterpillar, is there no special feature between caterpillars that will become butterflies and moths?
Yes the color, the shape, the size, the fuzziness, lots of different characteristics.
I noticed the four “humps” which are somewhat different from the caterpillar that will become a butterfly… Is it true?
From what I have read and researched online, there is no feature that will distinguish a butterfly caterpillar from a moth caterpillar. You can only tell them apart by learning what the caterpillars of each butterfly and moth group look like.
I see… Thanks for the explanation.
I thought it was going to be a moth because it was furry and had a soft color, and looks like I guessed correctly. Yay, that made my day! ?
Yes you were correct! Thanks 🙂
Such a weird creature will turn to the beautiful butterfly. Nature is a miracle. Nice photo.
No, it will turn into a moth. But yes it is a beautiful caterpillar. Thanks!
