Potter Wasp ~ Day 238

In researching this black wasp on my deck sedum, it looks like a Potter Wasp. There are a variety of Potter Wasps in North America. Those in the genus Euodynerus look similar to each other, with some species requiring close inspection to differentiate. Black bodies have a short yellow band above the waist on the thorax. Usually they will leave you alone if you don’t invade their space. I kept my distance with my camera. More amazing little critters in my deck garden.

  1. I don’t go after them if they are not building a nest near my door. But if they come in or near a building I get them with the electronic bug zapper.

  2. Great shot! They don’t stay still very long!! The worst wasp we have is the Tarantula, luckily I have never been stung by one of those. My worst sting came from an ant, although the red wasp sure packs a punch.
