Let’s figure out how quickly you get your Family History Project off the ground!
-
Question of
There are boxes and boxes of pictures in XYZ’s garage.
-
Having lots of pictures is scary. But you have to start with the first scan!
-
I need to get a scanner!
-
I need to set a scanning goal.
-
-
Question of
I have my scanning started when do I start posting?
-
Set a goal of blogging after you reach XYZ number of scans.
-
Or do what I did, start sharing right away.
-
-
Question of
What should I share my project?
-
There are several options including Virily, a great site for both pictures and text.
-
I don’t have a Youtube Channel or a Podcast (they are easy to start)
-
I am scared no one will read this.
-
-
Question of
It is scary to share memories. You aren’t always sharing for people reading today.
-
I am sharing my family history for my children and grandchildren.
-
I started my family history to share with the world!
-
-
Question of
How can I convert my blog into a family history book?
-
I use Blog2Print they do a great job
-
There are a number of other tools that also work.
-
I am going to do it myself by copying my files into a word processor!
-
Nice I Like It Nice Poll.
Nice I like it very good ok bye
Thank you for sharing this poll on this site.
are you going to start a family history project?
I do not have the time to engage in such a project but you never know if my relatives decide to try it.
It is a large time committment. Thanks for your thoughts!
It is great to have your photos in multiple places in case something goes wrong.
I agree!!! I am currently storing photos in four locations (two on line, two in my house) that way I feel safer!
Kim is right, we cannot go back and change things but we can start now. Thank you for sharing.
True. Just wish I had started earlier. But now, I am going to keep going!
I think I should start by first collating all the photos stored in various memory cards. I used to put all of it in my Nexus tablet then it died along with my files ?
Memory cards live roughly 5 years or so. Get them onto your computer. Then copy all of them to another HD!
Great points, Some day I will do this. Nice to know what you use, what the options are.
The worst thing for me was the reality that happened. Sitting there in my father’s study. Looking at all the slides, pictures and memories. I spent the next 79 blogs writing memories of my father. Each of those blogs hurt. Not to write, but knowing every single time that I could have shared them when he was alive. I lost that chance. Never again.
But you know how much your kids love you, he knew as well. My dad is gone too. We can’t beat ourselves up with I wish I had of done this or told him that. I totally believe they knew and know. My dad was the best dad ever, and I know I will cry many tears, but they will be good ones in a bitter sweet way.
But what I don’t have is all of his stories. I videotaped my grandfather by happenstance about a month before he died. I didn’t do that with my dad.
