Are you afraid of spiders? If so then you have what is known as arachnophobia, a fear of spiders. But, this black and yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia) is our friend. I do not like spiders but am not afraid of them as long as they do not touch me. I can photograph this type all day long, until it moves. Then I am done. I know it will not bite me I just don’t want it to crawl on me. But I want you all to know this garden spider eats insects and bugs that can kill our garden plants. He is our friend, let him live please.

I have no problem with spiders, they always build a city on my ceiling even if I sweep them away and relocate them outside the house. argh!
Absolutely they have to be outside!
yup but somehow I accommodate them for weeks inside my room. then when cleaning time they have to vacate.
Yikes well good luck with that problem
Exactly, it is very common here because under the roof is their safest place for webbing.
It’s been a few months, none of them visited or lived in my garden
I always see one of these garden spiders every year.
They love you more, much more than they love me.
Well, it just takes patience like anything else to sit there and slowly photograph them. I never touch the spider. I keep my distance.
That’s right, but it seems like its already a year no spider visited my trees.
What a beautiful Orb Weaver. I have one. 😉 He hatched this spring. He or she could stretch out on my pinkie tip. He didnt of course. Now it is full grown and happy. Still in the same place.
In a previous post one of us posted, I talked about why I don’t weed under that plant. lol told ya I had spiders there.
Yes I remember Kim. This first photo was the garden spider o the fence. The other was in my garden close to my house. They like to get around my hydrangea for some reason.
Spiders are our friends. The amount of bugs they remove from the world alone makes them friends.
Yes they are Doc, that was the message I was trying to get across.
I have lots of huge spiders in my garden. They are similar to the one in the photo but hairy as well. I leave them alone since they are beneficial.
Yikes, the hairy ones give me chills to look at. 🙂 Not is a good way but I just look and keep my distance. They are helpful for sure.
Good to see you by the way.
There are lots of spiders around in the UK in September. It’s a terrible time to be a fly!
You are so right, they definitely eat the bugs.
I’m terrified of them….but I won’t kill them. I just get as far away as I can. Great photo!
Sorry about that Courtney. Did you know they are probably more scared of you?
I’m sure they are, that seems to be the case with most of these kind of things. They just creep me out mostly. When I first got married, my husband and I saw a huge spider that jumped….that was really freaky!
And that probably is a flashback for you.
Have a good weekend.
Yes, it still is….I still get shivers when I think of it.
Thank you….hope you have a good weekend too!
My favorite spider. Sadly I don’t see them very often.
That is too bad Gary they are stunning.
Looks like a banana spider. They have them in Japan
Never heard of that one. Interesting Thomas.
Very nice in photos.
I do not like them.
Thanks to you for commenting.
I never crave a spider-I’m not superstitious only in our country say that the crab brings happiness-only I could cultivate them .. sails from nowhere haha
Thanks for your comment lado.
I’m not afraid from Insects haha..But really Friendly Spiedy..:)
Good to know hamza. Good to see you.
I can’t help it… I clicked No on the 2ns question although I’m pretty sure I won’t do anything to it if it leave me alone… lol
You are fine, you would probably not kill this one if you saw it. 🙂
I like them outside, not inside the house 🙂
Absolutely no spiders inside. 🙂
I’m not afraid of them! They look very nice in photos and I always liked to take picture of them. I’m fascinated by their weaver skill! Great pictures, Carol!
I know, and it was too bright today for these pics The sun was too bright but I will get more later. Thanks!
