Nature Tuesday ~ Royal Vineyard 1

Visiting the Royal Vineyard really impressed me so I have to show you another picture. It’s a beautiful view. In the foreground is a vineyard, behind the vineyards is a sea with islands. The history of the Royal Vineyards begins in 1066, when King Peter Krešimir IV of Croatia. donated this land near Petrcane to the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary. In 1072, one of the nunnery sisters  decided to turn this soil into a vineyard, and thus began the process of creating what is now known as the Royal Vineyards. For centuries, high quality wines have been produced on this earth with a specific aroma originating from the roots of the hard Dalmatian soil in which the vines are planted.

  1. Many Dalmatians and Croatians immigrated to New Zealand and planted vineyards. I grew up in Henderson West Auckland and there was many orchards and vineyards owned by people from former Yugoslavia.
