Macro Monday ~Edelweiss, the oldest protected plant

When I was walking in nature at a young age, my parents always said to me: don’t tear the flowers. They had protected plants in mind. The first plant species that has been secured in Slovenian, the edelweiss – symbol of the Alps. Edelweiss is one of Europe’s most famous flowers. The very name suggests that the home of this beautiful flower is a mountain world. Edelweiss was threatened with extinction years ago due to the onset of mailboxes. Edelweiss can be found on rocky cliffs, wall cracks, and rarely on meadows between 1500 and 2400 meters in height. They are unevenly distributed, usually growing in unreachable places. It is an extremely humble and stubborn flower, and a little sandy soil in the rock crevice is enough for its existence, where it defies wind, rain, and sunshine.
