During the winter I feed the birds peanuts and sunflower seeds. This year I placed the feeder in Dustin’s garden. Trying to keep the mess from the deck. Birds can really get messy.
The trade off will be not as many photos. I could stand inside and snap deck photos pretty easily. But not so much now that the feeder is moved.
No sunflower seeds have been put out yet but I will soon. The blue jays and cardinals love the peanuts.
But they are being fed and that is the main thing. I will still try to get photos from time to time.

Do you feed birds through the winter?

Yes

No

We have seeds in the feeder all winter. I hadn’t seen peanuts, going to try that this year!
Blue Jays, Cardinals and woodpeckers love these peanuts. I will mix a few sunflowers in later. I try to stay away from anything else due to the ratbirds!
I love birds. I love watching them but I never feed them.
I feed them so they will visit more often.
It’s impossible for me to that. We don’t have bird’s feeder.
I love to feed birds …………
Good for you I know they appreciate it.
Birds live in my yard year round so I do feed them.
That is great, I love seeing the different types.
I have a bird feeder on the terrace so I can watch them
Good for you, they take me to another world watching their behavior.
We do not particularly feed the birds. The garden has enough for them to help themselves.
I only feed them when it gets cold and all the insects and worms are gone. A few holly berries in the yard but that is about all that is left during the winter.
We do not have extreme weather and that helps. Our fruit trees bear at different times in the year but there are some like the curry leaf and noni fruits and they are perennial.
That is good. Our seasons are usually from one extreme to another.
It’s wonderful that you put importance on them getting fed. 🙂 Some birds are really messy indeed.
I just really enjoy seeing them flock to the backyard. And they are looking for food when the insects are gone, so I say why not help them. Keeping the feeder in the garden should help the mess.
I put a plate with different seeds and a lot of bread crumbs.
That is good, I stay away from the small seeds due to not wanting sparrows.
We put nuts in the feeder and wait for the first bowers to arrive.
I love watching the backyard birds. Makes me happy.
I also kept the birds this year but I don’t know if I will …. they are mostly sparrows and are very aggressive and don’t leave other birds healthy
I try to keep sparrows away. They like the small seeds. I put out the peanuts and sunflower seeds for the bigger birds.
In our country there are no bigger birds … except for birds of prey …. what is nice is that they are shallow and afraid of sparrows

That is very interesting, you should write about this.
I could only write these birds. It is impossible to take pictures … they are fast and have almost nothing at all … they circulate in the sky and when they see the prey, they drop at high speed and take away a cat or hen easily.
It’s so nice of you to feed the birds. As I am staying in tropical country, so I don’t feed the birds in the winter.
I used to feed the birds here, but some people in the neighborhood complain about it (though they might not complain about me), so I just stop feeding the birds now. Here, some people don’t like the mess of birds. I still leave a slice of bread or two in my garden for the birds sometimes, though I think the birds can also find food elsewhere as it’s hot here.
Thank you, I do what I can for the ones I see. I make sure they have fresh water too. The mess on my deck is my mess, nobody’s business. 🙂
I try to photograph the birds every chance I get too.
