- Strengthens bones and teeth – Milk and milk derivatives are extremely important for the formation of bones and teeth in childhood and adolescence and for the maintenance of both during adulthood.
- Prevents osteoporosis – Osteoporosis occurs when the body no longer forms sufficient amounts of new bone material, or when too much ‘old’ bone material is reabsorbed into the body – in both cases, both can occur. If bones are not renewing as they should, they become weaker and thinner and fractured. Milk helps to prevent this disease by containing good amounts of calcium and also by having vitamin D.
- Helps to lose weight – A study at the University of California, United States, and published in the Journal of The American College of Nutrition found that people who consume more milk have a lower risk of developing obesity.
Researchers suggest that the high calcium content in milk helps with weight loss. This is because, according to the authors, when the body lacks calcium, there is a greater tendency for cells to reduce fat burning.
– Provides well-being – The milk has tryptophan. It is an amino acid that provides a feeling of calm and well-being. The substance relaxes the muscles and induces sleep, so having a glass of milk before going to bed is a great idea.
- Prevents type 2 diabetes – Studies show that lowering calcium and vitamin D in the blood increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Therefore, consumption of milk, which is an excellent source of calcium and still has vitamin D, prevents the onset of the disease.
