Saw my first butterfly of 2019 today in Dustin’s garden! So excited. I have been out in the hot 95 degree sun taking photos. I have so many to share with you. This first one is the fritillary butterfly. He loves the butterfly bush. The black one and the white one. I will start with the white blooms.
People who are not very familiar with butterflies frequently mistake fritillaries for their more famous cousins, the Monarchs. Most are orange and black like the monarchs, but with a different pattern and some are about the same size.
They are as attractive and their life histories are just as interesting, although they do not make the monarch’s incredible journey all the way to Mexico. Sadly, some species of fritillaries are considered endangered.
I feel honored to have these endangered beauties in my yard. In Dustin’s garden. Life is good!

This may sound strange to you but on a fine winter’s day I sometimes see the odd Monarch I have never seen this butterfly but it certainly is very beautiful
That is kind of odd but I embrace it Pam. This butterfly is very common here. I love them all.
This is picture perfect once again. I love it!
You are very kind, thank you!
Did you sprint from the deck to the flower to get this picture? I bet your feet never touched the ground!
Ha! How did you know. My co outer windows are all along the back of the house, so I have many exits I can take when I see wings. 🙂 I was actually scrambling around to get out there for sure. Because they will be gone in a second. No shoes!
I knew, based on the other posts this year, how much you were waiting for that first butterfly!
Yes I planted these flowers just for the butterflies.
So beautiful butterfly.
Thank you very much, it was beautiful.
yes i see butterflies hahaha
but they are very fast for my camera.
I rarely get to photograph them
Happy Friday
Good for you, they are very special to me in the garden.
Hmm… I’ve seen some small once that “hop” on grass …
any idea what they’re? I’m curious
Hop? Maybe they are moths. There are tiny butterflies called skippers but they don’t actually hop.
Erm… it looks like they’re hopping …
or maybe they just fly short distance and land that’s why 😕
Good capture , yeah we have it in our garden
Thanks, I was so excited to see it.
There are many butterflies here and I like
That is great thanks!
Today I saw a butterfly in my garden, but I did not manage to photograph it
They can be challenging to capture.
As I said before, exquisite photo. Thank you for the information.
Thanks this is a different photo. 🙂 I took many!
This one is exquisite as well! 🙂
Thanks, I love these butterflies all summer long.
Have a great rest of the weekend!
Great picture, dear Carol … I also finally got the picture of a butterfly …
Thanks, I was so happy to see this butterfly. Oh cool! 🙂 You got one too!
I finally managed … it’s not as good as yours
Oh all butterflies are great as well as photos. I took several just in case mine didn’t turn out! Good for you my friend.
By the way, I just saw your beautiful butterfly. Loved it. Great job.
Wow Carol! What an amazing picture!
Beautiful butterfly on lovely flowers, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I planted the flowers just for the butterflies!
Enjoy your evening my friend.
