During this year’s vacation I also visited the city of Zadar. Zadar is a port city in northern Dalmatia and is the capital of Zadar County and the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese. It is also known for the largest church in Dalmatia. The Cathedral in Zadar or the Cathedral of Sv. Anastasia is a triadic Romanesque church located in Zadar, Croatia. It is the largest church in Dalmatia. Built in two phases in the 12th and 13th centuries, with the preserved older one from the 9th and 11th centuries, built on the site of an early Christian basilica. The beginnings of the construction of the Zadar Cathedral go back to history, dating back to the 4th or 5th century. The bell tower of the Zadar cathedral was made in two stages. The ground floor and first floor were built in 1452 (during the time of Archbishop Vallaress) and the upper floors were between 1890 and 1894; modeled after the bell tower in Rab, it was built by English architect and art historian Thomas Graham Jackson.
