Updating my Bluebird Blog for 2018. If you missed the last entry you can read it here: Last Bluebird Egg. Five eggs hatched in my backyard house. I have been monitoring several times daily to make sure things are safe, no insects or intruders. I also have a mealworm feeder for the parents to feed the babies. But they also need insects in their diet for protein.
Today is day ten. In a couple of days I will have to stop monitoring the babies as they will be old enough to fledge too early. If they leave too early they will not survive. They are growing every day. Too cool to watch the process. I will keep you updated. They will be leaving the nest soon. This photo was taken on day eight when they first opened their eyes. Their wings are developing and they are actually blue!

Aww how kind DOc. They will be leaving soon. I am getting empty nest syndrome already. 🙁 They usually stay in the yard for awhile but then they fly away.
The hardest thing is letting go. Thanks for sharing these!
Absolutely right, in all matter of life.
In all things, letting go is the hardest thing to do. But, it is also the first step towards the rest of our lives.
They look beautiful and blue already. Wonderful to watch new life. Do you have Bird Rescue where you live? We have Bird Rescue in Auckland. We have a wonderful woman Lyn MacDonald who is a Green Bay chief Bird Rescuer in Auckland she does really well, plus other bird rescue places. She has a team of volunteers. No one gets paid for it.
Bird Rescue performs miracles for birds in NZ
They are already getting the blue feathers. The bright blue are the male. We do have resumes all over the state. I would love to do that.
I do love reading about them. I had mentioned before that we don’t like this in my country. Thank you for sharing them. c”,)
Thanks for reading about my happiness and excitement. Everyone has their own cultures, I understand that.
It is nice to have something to share on. c”,)
It looks like they are weighing the relative merits of feathers vs down…
Yes they are in between with their development. Having a bad hair day! Today marks 14 days and they are fully feathered, almost ready to fledge.
So they decided against down, opting for feathers?
Yep! They need to fly. 🙂
Most of my girls who fly manage it without feathers…
Well we are in two different worlds!
To my eyes, they already look so blue!
Yes they have blue feathers already! Day ten today. They will fly away on day 16-18. 🙁
Uuuh… 16-18… That pretty quick!
Yes and they come out ht house flying. Isn’t that amazing? Of course the parents stay with them showing them the ropes for a few weeks.
This is why it is so important to do the right things so they can fly out successfully.
That’s really a miracle!
They are growing! Such a cute photo!
Yes, ten days old now! 🙂
They will be leaving the nest soon.
they grew up, thank you for sharing
Yes they grow every day I can tell a difference.
Thank you for letting us all be a part of this miracle of life.
You are welcome, it is so exciting, each step of the way.
