An interesting technology GPS for your Dog's Collar…

(This is picture 2, continuing the random picture contest, Carol’s choice)!

I am taking a break from making writing sites a better series for a few days. It gets boring for me, and I am sure others!

Based on my rules, I don’t review technologies that I didn’t purchase myself. My rationale for that is that I don’t want to be influenced by things given to me. So I won’t mention the company (there are many in the space); instead, I will talk about the product and my exposure/experience with that product. I also won’t include a rating at the end. I reserve that for technologies that I am doing a full review of that technology. This disclaimer is essential as it is the rules of my review process, and I am cautious about sticking to those rules.

A long time acquaintance (not a friend just someone I’ve known a long time) is working for a new company. He is an IoT or Internet of Things person. They, the company asked him to join a new group they were forming. It was literally to create a unique dog collar GPS experience. He and I worked at the same company many years ago, and he reached out to a bunch of us that used to talk about our dogs all the time at events. He asked us if we would be willing to use this product for 60 days.

Most of us said sure. The solution, for now, is a GPS clip you put on your dog’s collar. In my case, my dog and I walk every day. So over the 60 days, I was able to send the company maps of where my dog walked and where I walked; it was interesting because, in some cases, the GPS for the dog collar got easily confused. So the data of where my dog walked could be off by as much as 200 more meters. That isn’t bad when you are walking around. That is bad when you are looking for a lost dog.

The company was going to work on the overall accuracy. I did like their software a lot. The next thing is they will ask me what I would pay for such a device. That is a much harder question answered! My dog isn’t likely to run away so the technology isn’t a great fit. But if they make the GPS more accurate, it is possible i might use it!
