These are White Faced Grey Herons, about 3 of them . They are all at Mangere Bridge area and the photo is taken from the Kiwi Esplanade road.
I don’t know why these birds get into a flap when no human has annoyed them, I took this photo from a distance. However, the only explanation is that birds are territorial and they are disputing their personal space. There could be another explanation for all I know.
Whatever was between these 3 birds, it was all over in seconds and everything was fine.
I am not able to go through all the posts as I have been caught up with appointments and organisation and work.
However, we are having a short break and today I am driving a very long way to a destination, but we will be connected to the internet ….
Wish more Grey Herons, they are too graceful!!! Amazing shot!!!
Thanks so much Anastasia, glad you like these birds.
Beautiful shot. Everyone fights for his own piece of land.
Thanks Vidocka, glad you like the photo.
It’s a beautiful wildlife, a little game to say.
Thank you, Pamela.
As always beautiful bird pictures Pam.
Read when you can, you don’t have to feel bad about life intervening!
Bon Voyage, dear Pamela
Thanks Lado, after 4 hours driving I am in Rotorua. So we have only just got settled in
Have a good time … Have a good time and enjoy, dear Pam
The oldest recorded bird lived for 23 years, but the average life expectancy in the wild is about 5 years. Only about a third of juveniles survive into their second year, many falling victim to predation
It depends on the type of bird on how long it lives……A large parrot can live as long as we do
Getting birds in flight is not easy Good capture.
There must be just one female and that explains their reason to ‘get into a flap’?
That also could be true as well. Thanks Grace
Territory is so important to birds as you know. Such a beautiful photo in black & white.
