Bird of the Day – The New Zealand Wood pigeon or Kereru

I see there are a range of Wood pigeons in the World. This bird is unique to New Zealand, New Zealand Wood pigeon or Kereru.

As I understand, the Kereru or New Zealand Wood Pigeon is the biggest pigeon in the world.

  No, the National bird is the New Zealand Kiwi…It is a dull brown flightless bird that only comes out at night and it is an endangered species. Only seen it at the Zoo and you are not allowed to take photos of it.
