I recently celebrated my 20th anniversary of full time employment with the Residential Services Division of Northeast ARC. We provide support for persons with developmental disabilities living in a dozen communities in Northeast Massachusetts. I oversee the scheduling component for weekend staffing to make sure that Northeast ARC homes have good, qualified, caring staff helping these individuals have safe and supportive places to pursue their dreams. Years ago when I started working in this field I saw a bumper sticker with the slogan “Everyone has special needs. That’s true and it’s been one of my guiding principles. The other two are “Treat the caregivers who work for us at least as well as we ask them to treat the folks in our care” Dignity, respect, and being a valued member of a community is extremely important. The other principle I advocate “Catch someone doing something right and make an example of them”. I accentuate the positive and it inspires positive results. Twenty years running and ready for more…
This is a very inspirational post.
What a special honor for you Paul. And rightfully so from what I know. This will be a treasure forever. Congrats to you!
Thank you Carol! It was a most pleasant surprise.
Very well deserved Paul.
It is a symbol of great loyalty, Paul. I appreciate that too. By reading the three core values you mentioned, I believe your organization has a great and powerful service culture.
Yes I would say that describes Northeast ARC very well. Some of the most dedicated and committed people I have ever met all working to help individuals with developmental disabilities identify and achieve their goals and feel supported and valued in the process.
Something very worthy to be grateful for
