I was out taking photos since my time is limited on my computer. I noticed on the other side of the fence something in the grass. There used to be a dairy farm behind the house but unfortunately it has been sold and houses are going up very quickly. Not good but you either accept it or move. Not ready to move. Anyway, back to the visitor. The closer I got I realized it was female turkey. Just one, by herself. You usually see a male and several females. But maybe she was lost, thinking what is this, there used to be a field here.
Wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) live in woods in parts of North America and are the largest game birds found in this part of the world. They spend their days foraging for food like acorns, seeds, small insects and wild berries. They spend their nights in low branches of trees (yes, wild turkeys can fly!). I found it a little odd she was not traveling in her flock as she used to do. Maybe there will be more to see. I will keep looking. You never know what you might see out in nature. Keep your camera with you all the time.

I didn’t know that turkeys could fly. Maybe this turkey was lost and was trying to find her flock. .
I like turkeys . I don’t love it when the guys are practicing turkey calls.
We have those on our golf course, Carol, and they come right up to the bottom of the stairs at my place in Northern California. I am glad I have an upstairs unit, because those turkeys are HUGE. The males have a more prominent display, but they seem to know if I am trying to take a picture of them and turn right around and show their backsides!
Yes they are pretty big, remind me of a peacock. I grew up around all sorts of wild animals, this being one. I would see flocks and loved the males.
No upvote option???!!!
I see the upvote option, you are not seeing it?
Ooh, I see it now. Must have been the beer 😀
Ha! That is a good excuse. 🙂
Again, this is something I can only see in a photo, or zoo maybe… As I recall, you often get special visits from various animals, and you are very lucky for it, at least when compared to me…
What is funny Albert is she returned just now. I was out getting more photos, she was closer this time. Makes me wonder still what was she doing alone. I am lucky to see such animals.
Awesome Carol. Now theres something I don’t get to see in my travels. Here anyway. She looks as if she is by herself, but I bet ya that tom was in the woods or a tree nearby. They are a lot my cautious than the females.
Saw him right outside my backyard fence. I thought she might have babies but I never did see any.
Ah see there, he was near. They are never very far.. Maybe you will see little ones soon! That would be a treat for sure.
I have seen her every day for a week now with no babies. I hope she is not lost.
Totally agree that you never know what you might see out in nature, and you’ve taken marvellous turkey photo!!!
Thanks, taken form my backyard. Good to see you.
I’ve never seen wild turkey outside of a liquor store
And there he is… entering the room with the best line of the day.
That is too funny Alex.
Can’t always do Narnia jokes- gotta mix it up some of the time…
I needed that laugh.
I am glad to provide the comic relief when you need it
Nice photo. I was afraid of a curd of men as a child, they were going to kick their women
Thanks Branka. Do no understand your comment but thanks.
I had the fear of these animals when I was a little girl.
I remembered when I was holding turkeys.
I had one big turkey who ate my watermelon from my hand.
If I saw my wife in the yard, she would immediately hurry.
She was mad and I smiled from laughter.
Oh my gosh what a funny little story!
I try to have my camera available at all times. but this morning I was not fast enough. I was driving to work, and I saw the most beautiful sunrise, but I couldn’t get to my phone fast enough. Darn! Nice looking turkey
That is a great thing to do. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not.
