The first time I got on an airplane, it was a prop plane. Or more fairly a pane that used a propeller, not a Jet. When I was a little kid, my mom flew us from Bloomington, Indiana, to Billy Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to see my grandparents. We then flew back on a propeller plane. Up and back on a plane that had propellers. In the remainder of my life, over 2 million miles flown on all airlines, from big and small airports I have flown on a prop plane a total of 5 times. That first trip, and then four more trips on Prop Planes. The most fun was my wife and I flying into Lanai airport on the island of Lanai for a week in Hawaii. But I also flew on a prop plane from New York to Ocean City, Maryland.
Propeller driven planes are fading. Jets have taken over. The same is true for several other technologies and things we used to use. Many professional photographers still use film in cameras, but they also have moved to have a digital camera. But the camera in and of itself as well is threatened now by the rise of the cell phone camera. This line of thinking got me wondering what has moved from the main market to a niche market product. The main market in the economic sense of that phrase means that what you are selling is something that most people would at lead say I might need that. Where a Niche product is something that people like me in the technology space say I might need that. Most people say I don’t need that.
The evolution of the market is interesting. The watch, if you look at watched in 1970 the majority of men and women wore watches by 2000 that wasn’t true anymore. Watches were analog devices in the digital world. But now, the iWatch and the Samsung Gear, as well as other smart watches, have done something else. They have begun to rebuild the watch. At the same time, they have killed several products that were second screen products. (add ons that gave your cell two screens). All of this resulting in a shift the watch isn’t dead. I am going to put a few products in the poll let’s see what people think is dead or dying in terms of products we all know wand love.
Thanks for playing along, as always!

For each of the questions listed, they have a chance of being used. I don’t think anything goes out of style. Different people have different preferences. I’m not used to wearing a watch, but I like it.
it is all about preferences you are right!
It was anticipated printed books will be dead. Not so. It would take many years for ebooks to overtake printed books.
I think developing nations will be the one who would continue older versions of technologies. The printers won’t fade out very quickly although scanners are losing their place. Even flat screen TVs have replaced the older ones.
i suspect i left printed books off the list, because I have 3 books still in print! but I think as the smart phone pushes more and more, books will go as well.
Ahh…that is good. Smartphones will sure replace but I prefer printed books to reading a book online. The downfall is that printed books are expensive.
i do, but I do see significant cost and ecological value to ending books.

interesting results today in particular the pretty much 50/50 split on all but two.
ATMs and Cameras still have a little market support!
I stopped using a wristwatch back in 1993. And I traveled in a propeller plane several times for fun. My father was an agricultural engineer and his department owned several such planes for spraying pesticides. Some of those spray pilots let me in for a short ride once in a while.
crop dusters, that is an interesting experience! we used to watch them when I was doing farm work as a teenager. They would dust one field while we detassled another.
Interesting poll results. Watches are a fashion accessory to me, I still love them.
i love my watch! the apple watch has so many cool features including monitoring your heart!
But i have several other watches and I won’t get rid of any of them!
I have stopped using them but I still have several of them. Some of them still in perfect working condition.
i have two pocket watches that were carried by my great-grandfather as a conductor on the Aurora line (a train line in Chicago Illinois). They still work!
Such watches are so interesting.
they really are, the market continues to change over time!
I did not ride with such a plane. Since I have a cell phone, I don’t use a wristwatch.
How long since you stopped wearing a watch?
I think it’s been ten years since I haven’t used the watch.
that is a long time, i was going to stop wearing a watch, but found the Pebble (first smartwatch) and fell in love with watches again!
I have many watches but wear them mostly as a piece of jewelry. Everything is changing.
things are changing, I do have a dress watch and used to wear it on date night, but my wife has an apple watch now, so we match!
We never plunged on the Apple watches but I know many enjoy them.
they are truly amazing, we use them for many things.
I still wear a wristwatch and it’s battery operated … it’s a classic Breitling watch and I don’t trade it for any other …. I remember the planes on the propeller well … I have a fear of planes ever since
i remember bumpy rides at least my first plane ride. but later we flew across the ocean and flying was ok after that.
They were really really jumpy …. I’ll never forget …. I drove to Belgrade … the flight lasted only 45 minutes and in the meantime I thought the plane would fall in the air …. it ran out also oxygen and we had to have masks … catastrophe …. when we landed my legs were shaking so I couldn’t even walk …. then I swore I would never fly again … but then anyway flew many more times because I just had to always be with fear and now thank God I no longer have to
I remember those days! my wife and I were holding hands (tightly) as we flew to Lanai in Hawaii.
we were on a bumpy prop plane for an hour, over open water!
And that’s why I’m not riding planes now …. but I’m not afraid of death if I fall down right away … I’m scared of the panic that ensues …. and then I watch TV in the air
that is a tough fear, I am sorry you have that pal.
Yes, and in no way can I get rid of it, dear friend
there are ways to get rid of fears, but at this point for you it would probably not be a great investment of time.
Probably not really … I have tried many things … I can last until 2 hours if I was in the air for 15 hours it surely hits my stroke
it takes about two years and you work slowly up to actually being able to go longer!
I still have a huge collection of watches. I have a mechanical watch too. My husband is an expert in watches and I get watches as gifts all the time 😀 Beautiful , but they are always watches. LOL
i like being able to change the face on my watch based on my mood! Watches had drooped thier overall market share by nearly 50% by 2000. Since 2011, they have rebounded but not to where they were in the 1980s!
I still think that in the Asian region the demand for watches is still high. I have a Fitbit, but I prefer to use my dress watches over my fitbit. Maybe its just old habit having a hard time dying as far as I am concerned.
i have the watch my grandfather gave me for graduating high school. watches are something you either love, or you check your phone to see how time this person talking about watches has wasted!
