Today I spent almost an hour trying to photograph a jumping spider. It was walking on a basil leaf and trying to hide something it was holding with his front legs. It was difficult to see with the naked eye because it was not larger than 3-4 mm. Anyway I took some photos, not very clear, but from which yyou can see that the spider is carrying something.
I share these photos with Macro Monday Challenge.
-
What does the spider carry?
-
an ant
-
a smaller spider (maybe his child)
-
another type of spider it hunted
-
From the white front legs of the critter he is carrying I would have to go with another type of spider, the back end is a different shape so it cant be one of his own. I say spider but not his kind.
HOw in the world did you get these shots. Wow, these really are amazing. These guys are so fast.
As I said I spent almost an hour trying to photograph this spider! Patience is the word that characterizes me when taking pictures!?
Well the effort was worth it, all of them are fabulous.
You are an experienced observer!
I think this is honed in by many hours of trying to id things I find while out hiking. Flowers are very hard, insects are easier for me.
Hmm… no idea … ant?
Nice macro!!
Thank you, alibb! I revealed the answer in another post. I can’t give you the answer here!?
I guess I just have to wait for it!
Incredible macro Indeed , I think an ant
Thank you! I’ll reveal the answer later!
I cant say the spider could be carrying anything…Great photo, I believe we also get these jumping spiders and I don’t mind this type it is not poisonous, we do have poisonous spiders in New Zealand but not life threatening.
There are spiders carrying hundreds of babies spiders on its back!
gonna say that’s lunch. could be an ant- the abdomen and thorax are right…
Maybe it’s breakfast because I took the picture in the morning! Have you seen the white dots on its abdomen? Ants don’t have that!
plus the abdomen isn’t segmented, so perhaps it isn’t an ant
Did not know spiders looked like this. Great photo. Cannot make out what it is carrying
The jumping spiders have this specific form!
That spider looks like it caught a prey and would be having a feast soon.
It could definitely be a prey!
Carries an ant perhaps. Incredible macro.
It could be an ant but I’ll post the answer later!
It seems to be a smaller spider. As I can see it has 8 legs. An ant has only 6 legs.
That’s a good observation!
It is black and it seems an ant.
There are also black spiders!?
I think she is carrying an ant.
Thank you for the comment! I can’t tell you if the answer is correct.
