Do You Know Some of These Hospital Machines and Laboratory Equipments? Take This Quiz

Since I am working as a clinical service engineer for nearly 8 years, I am here once again guys for a quiz to challenge you all how well do you know and familiarized these following hospital machines and laboratory equipments.

Make sure to get 11/15 to pass this quiz. I know some of you here don’t really know much of these machines, unless you’re a nurse, rad tech, med tech, or a biomed either. But anyway, if not, this is your chance to be familiarized with these stuffs in case you happen to be at the care system of health care personnel.

So are you ready? Take this quiz now and share this to your friends. Good luck!

  • Question of

This machine uses transducers or probes with gel for scanning fetus, detect excretory diseases, heart failures, etc. It sends out high-frequency sound waves, which reflect off body structures. A computer receives the waves and uses them to create a picture. This test does not use ionizing radiation. Philips, GE, Toshiba, Samsung, Mindray, Siemens are among its famous brands. What diagnostic machine is this?

    • CT scan
    • MRI
    • Ultrasound
    • X-ray
  • Question of

This device gives a high energy electric shock to the heart through the chest wall to someone who is in cardiac arrest. It sends out high energy shock for essential life-saving step in the chain of survival. It has two paddles used to shock unconscious or near-death patients. Philips, HeartSine, Physio-Control, Zoll, Cardiac Science are among its famous brands. What machine is this?

    • defibrillator
    • ventilator
    • infusion pump
    • sphygmomanometer
  • Question of

This machine uses magnetic and radio waves to create pictures of tissues, organs and other structures within the body, which can then be viewed on a computer. Unlike some other modes of medical imaging, there is no exposure to X-rays or any other damaging forms of radiation. GE, Philips, Siemens, Toshiba are among the famous brands of this machine. What machine is this?

    • ECG
    • MRI
    • EEG
    • ESU
  • Question of

Which of the following machine should be used to help premature or sick babies survive and thrive?

    • defibrillator
    • ventilator
    • incubator
    • nebulizer
  • Question of

It is a machine designed to move breathable air into and out of the lungs, to provide breathing for a patient who is physically unable to breathe, or breathing insufficiently. What machine is this?

    • defibrillator
    • nebulizer
    • patient monitor
    • ventilator
  • Question of

This laboratory equipment can be benchtop devices or placed on a cart; other systems require floor space. They are used to determine the concentration of certain metabolites, electrolytes, proteins, and/or drugs in samples of serum, plasma, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and/or other body fluids. This machine is not as easy to deal with as you can see. It requires thorough training to study and fix this machine. A machine specially designed for med techs and lab specialists. What machine is this?

    • electrolyte analzyer
    • chemistry analyzer
    • centrifuge
    • autoclave
  • Question of

An electrolyte analyzer is a laboratory equipment used to measure electrolyte levels in the human body to detect metabolic imbalances and measure renal and cardiac function. Which of the following is not measured by this equipment?

    • sodium
    • potassium
    • chloride
    • iron
  • Question of

Who originally invented sphygmomanometer, an instrument for measuring blood pressure, typically consisting of an inflatable rubber cuff which is applied to the arm and connected to a column of mercury next to a graduated scale, enabling the determination of systolic and diastolic blood pressure by increasing and gradually releasing the pressure in the cuff?

    • Scipione Riva-Rocci
    • Samuel Siegfried Karl Ritter von Basch
    • Harvey Cushing
    • René Laennec
  • Question of

This laboratory tool is commonly used in chemistry, biology and medicine to transport a measured volume of liquid, often as a media dispenser. What lab tool is this?

    • pipette
    • burette
    • vortex mixer
    • homogenizer
  • Question of

EKG is a machine used to detect and record heart’s electrical activity. Which of the following is not a name for this machine?

    • electroencephalogram
    • electrocardiogram
    • ECG
    • electrocardiography machine
  • Question of

It is a pressure chamber used to carry out industrial processes requiring elevated temperature and pressure different from ambient air pressure. What is this?

    • radiant warmer
    • ergometer
    • autoclave
    • ebulliometer
  • Question of

Which of the following does not belong to a group of diagnostic machines?

    • X-Ray
    • Ultrasound
    • MRI scanner
    • Proctoscopy
  • Question of

It is an electronic medical device that consists of one of more monitoring sensors, a processing component(s), and a screen display (also called a “monitor”) that provide and record for medical professionals a patient’s medical vital signs (body temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate and respiratory rate) or measurements of the activity of various body organs such as ECG monitors, anesthesia monitors, or EKG monitors. What is this?

    • life monitor
    • patient monitor
    • vital monitor
    • generic monitor
  • Question of

It is a piece of equipment that puts an object in rotation around a fixed axis (spins it in a circle), applying a potentially strong force perpendicular to the axis of spin (outward). It simply separates whole blood from its serum. What is this?

    • centrifuge
    • plate shaker
    • hemoglobin analyzer
    • glucometer
  • Question of

What form of engineering responsible primarily for applying and implementing medical technology to optimize healthcare delivery and is required to understand all modern medical technologies, as well as train, troubleshoot, and design, while managing entire clinical settings?

    • Medical engineering
    • Biomedical engineering
    • Laboratory engineering
    • Clinical engineering

    • Thanks for the gold medal lado..haha….7/15 is not bad at all, at least u have learned these machines basically…Have an apple a day to keep these machines away…Just kidding…Hope u like it lado.. 🙂

    • Thanks for taking my quiz and getting a half score…That’s not bad, at least u have earned a knowledge regarding these machines that we should be aware of knowing…Thse machines are not to be taken for granted coz they’re lifesavers… Have a nice day Anastasia 🙂

    • So far so good…U did a great job…so far u got the highest score from all takers here in my quiz…I think u work at a hospital..hehe..Nice job and thanks for playing 🙂

      • I actually did, many years ago! But it was not that kind of hospital. We had very few of these kinds of equipment in our place. We had to send patients out for things like MRI scans.

I think I know more from being a patient myself and from watching medical TV shows, LOL!

    • That’s a nice score already Carol…Hmm sorry for what happened to your dad…Now I think u know some of these machines already…Thanks for playing my quiz 🙂

  1. You got 11 out of 15 right! On question 8 about the blood pressure monitor, I read about another person. I found this information. Here she is:
For the measurement of AQU in clinical practice, the indirect sphincomanometric method introduced by the Italian physician, Scipione Riva-Rocci, is mainly used.
The blood pressure values measured by this method are written with RR – initials of Riva-Rocci.

I do not contradict the answer. I’ve been with high blood pressure for many years. And I’ve reviewed a lot of posts.

    • Yeah he was credited with the modern sphygmomanometer…But originally, it was Ritter who did it…Even in Wikipedia, it was originally credited to Ritter..but nice sharing of your info too lacho…Hope u like this quiz of mine… Thanks for dropping by and playing my quiz 🙂

  2. As an ex registered nurse, this quiz was fairly easy, even though I had forgotten a few of these instruments and medical diagnostic and treatment tools. Thank you for refreshing my memory.
