There seems to be quite a bit of disagreement about the dates when seasons begin. Obviously there is the difference between northern and southern hemispheres, where the seasons are six months apart. But quite apart from that, there are differing positions depending on country, and even differences within the country, between rural and urban communities, as here in Ireland. Let’s see what your own position is, with this fun poll 🙂

When does autumn begin?

I think it changes every year.
It also depends from year, more often 23 September, sometimes 1 September.
In our country begins the autumn September 23
For me personally it starts on the 1st of September because I associate september with autumn although it’s still very hot here!
I’m from the city, where autumn begins on 1 September, but now that I live in the countryside, my neighbours all say it begins at the start of August!
September 23rd here in TN Norman. I only wish the cooler temps would be here as well.
When do you start to get relief from that heat, Carol?
It depends, every year is different. Usually in October.
We don’t have autumn here.
Whereabouts are you, Mavic?
Asia has no autumn we only have two seasons. summer and rainy seasons.
I guess you are in Southeast Asia. Many parts of Asia have seasons.
Yes, Southeast Asian countries primarily only have two seasons.
Now here is a question for you. What time does the sun go down this time of year where you live? It sets here at 7:14 PDT in Oceanside, CA.
And here’s an answer: Sunset today here is 20:14, giving us a day length of 13 hours 38 minutes. Tomorrow will be 4 minutes shorter 🙂
One hour after us. Wow, a whole four minutes? That is interesting.
It starts here on the Sept. 22 and ends Dec. 21. Great poll btw Norman.
Thanks,Kim! Does that mean that summer begins on Midsummer’s Day in America? 😮
June 22 for the northern hemisphere. Now I have no idea if that was after the longest day..
Yep, it is. Here summer starts on 1 May (making Midsummer’s Day in the middle of summer!) but in the city it starts a month later on 1 June 🙂
Reading the comments and you replies, I had no idea or never thought of it really. Again, great question.
I love the fall and it does begin September 23. But, most of the time these days the weather does not show that.
Enjoy your few more weeks of summer, so! Thanks, Brenda 🙂
