Tropaeolum majus

Dragoljub (potočarka) is a plant from the family Tropaeolaceae, originated in the warm regions of South America. It grows as an ornamental plant in flowering plants, grows in light beech forests and gorges. Dragoljub originates from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, from where as an ornamental plant comes to Europe in the 16th century called “Bloody Flower”.One-year-old plant, about 15 cm tall, almost round leaves, densely stretched veins. The leaves are large, almost circular, 3-15 cm in diameter, green to greenish-colored. The fruit is 2 cm wide, with three segments, each segment with one large seed 1-1.5 cm.There are high species that grow up to 2 meters, mostly snail on the ground because they do not have climbing ropes and shrubs of the species. They blossom in shades of pale yellow, through various combinations of orange to red, scarred by stripes, their own fragrance.

  1. Here it is commonly called Nasturtium by everyone (scientifically this is not defining as Nasturtium can also refer to the genus of almost 80 species of flowering plants). Yes, I have eaten this plant. It is quite common to color a salad with the flowers. And, I have a recipe for Nasturtium Pesto! Cheers!
