It seems like the best way to feel content, happy and relaxed is to create habits that foster those qualities. Creating habits that make us happy, content, and productive should be a worthy goal. It should also be a way to make sure we are always learning and growing!
The first phase is identified as the initiation phase. You have selected your desired behavior and in the intention phase you create an organized time and place where the actions will be performed.
Let’s say the goal or habit is to minimize the “stuff” that stays in your home and is really unnecessary. Here is what your intention plan may look like.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 9:30 to 10:00 collect items to go to goodwill. Put it on the calendar, set reminders and follow through on the plan. Make certain the intention is realistic and well planned.
Repetition is the second phase. The key is doing something over and over is to find something enjoyable about performing the action. Let’s take a minute to explore how we can make actions enjoyable.
I enjoy a good stretch. Rolling my shoulders, shaking out the kinks and relaxing my body. It feels good and it relaxes my mind and body. I also need to meet my minimum water requirement. I will drink 8 ounces of water on the hour and do my stretches and relaxing to make the experience enjoyable. (That’s my joy.)
Persistence, this means get stubborn about it. That is your 3rd phase. You are going to make it happen. At about two weeks of doing the same thing, it begins to imprint and feel like a part of a routine. It’s not a habit. It is familiar and feeling like a part of a normal routine.
Frame your habit is a positive language. Let’s take a look at the negative approach. “I am not going to eat junk food. (This is talking about what you are not going to do.) Instead of “I am choosing to eat healthy food. Language makes a difference.

goals are critical – but creating new habits is about as you said process! 🙂
My process is a little off-kilter right now.
i would bet! Mine is holiday messed right, too many moving holiday pieces!
I am always looking for ways not to get so stressed over the little things in life.
it is hard to learn to let things roll away.
it may works if you are stubborn enough.
I am trying to be a morning person, it is a new habit I want to create.
Good luck with that goal. I would do it 5 minutes at a time.
Good to know – thanks for the comment.
