We all know Santa Claus but in Spain we are way much cooler than receiving only his presence… In fact, every 5th of January, the 3 magic kings (Reyes magos) visit the country and give presents to people. These 3 kings visited baby Jesus with presents back in the day and we receive the same visit every year now.
Children as a result get presents in December and in January and the 6th of January is a public holiday. If you are in Spain on the 5th of January you can see how cities arrange the visit of these 3 magic kings and eat a delicious dessert called roscón. The bad thing is that if you have not behaved well the magic kings give you coal.

This year I attended their arrival from the sea in Torrevieja. It was a magical evening.
That´s amazing. It must be great to see them coming from the sea.
Thanks a lot. The 3 kings saw a star that allowed them to discover Jesus.
Thanks a lot for your comment.
Never heard about 3 magic kings, very curious!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
My pleasure. These 3 kings visit Spain every year and I think other countries too.
This is a good tradition. Its sad we don’t get it here though.
Thanks a lot for your comment.
Here, too, we celebrate the Feast of the Three Holy Kings, my friend
Great. Did you get any presents????
I was not diligent enough, dear friend
I knew you were a problematic person
And how did you find that out
Never heard of this until now but I really like the sound of this tradition
Thanks a lot. It is a great tradition.
i’ve heard of this tradition many times. It is a wonderful way to bring in the new year.
thanks for sharing a bit of you with us!!!
Thanks a lot. To say the truth I thought this could be interesting for people here in Virily
you were right! you popped onto the most commented and trending lists! Good for you!!!!
Thanks a lot. I am eating roscón to celebrate it, my latest posts were about movies and they were not very popular
movies are a tough row to hoe here on Virily. i did movie reviews here for a long time, they never really took off.
When I was a boy, I would receive gifts from the elders because of the celebration of the 3 Kings. But now it’s not heard of anymore.
That is interesting. Which country do you come from???
That is a wonderful tradition. I was not aware of it.
Thanks a lot for your cooment.
Lovely tradition! Spanish children must be very good to get presents twice, hehe.
Yes, you are right, otherwise, these 3 magic kings give them disgusting and black coal
I know them as the magi, but they are also called kings
Reyes magos sounds better, though…
Los Reyes Magos Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar, and the three ships of Columbus “La Pinta, La Niña y La Santa María” are tattooed in my brain from Spanish classes. I am still not sure I can order food if I go to a Spanish-speaking country, but at least I know that.
it is funny that so many of us know the names of the magi, since they weren’t given in the bible
It’s interesting that many people, myself including, know a lot about what’s not given in the Bible, and very little about what’s actually given there.
That is impressive!!! Very good. Did you like Spanish???
Yeah, I love romance languages, but I haven’t practiced for a while so I am forgetting most of it.
That´s great. This is my blog in Spanish Ser un Tusitala for you to practice http://seruntusitala.blogspot.com/
Thanks, I will take a look
I did not know they were called the magi too.
it seems unlikely the magi would be kings, or vice versa but that’s the tradition
Yes, you are right. Thanks for commenting
you’re most welcome…
In our country, this is just a church holiday. Your tradition is wonderful, we don’t know it yet.
Perhaps your church holiday is related to these 3 magic kings
We simply greet each other Happy Three Kings here in the Philippines. But we don’t hold a special celebration for the Three Kings.
Very interesting. I did not know your country knew 3 magic kings too
Sounds like a great tradition I do not know about. I read about the kings in the bible growing up.
Very interesting. This is a huge celebration in Spain. Thanks a lot for commenting.
