Tech Wiz catch up column (covering a few topics from the past few weeks)

Tech Wiz review column. A wandering through some of the topics I’ve covered recently to touch base and update!

One of the things I noticed as I played with the Travis BlueVoice translation hardware, is the rate of speech is critical.  By that, I mean how fast or slow you speak makes a huge difference. The same is true with the pilot earpieces. Native language speakers tend to speak at a much faster rate than those of us trying to stumble along in a language do.

Update on my friend who posted the post about Fake news Vs.Libel. She has gotten over 200 deeply personal attacks and threats since posting the article. She took it down; it was only visible for 36 hours. That makes me sad on so many levels. Attack ideas all you want, leave people out of it!

My first personal computer was an Apple IIc. I remember when Apple was a struggling computer company. They are now worth a Trillion dollars. That is amazing!

Continuing today’s wrapup tech wiz blog –

  1. Playing with the Keecker is an interesting concept. So far, I’ve loaded some applications. It is incredibly nice to be able to interact with the larger screen of a rolling projector. The speakers are very impressive.
  2. We ’ve been learning Tandem biking – it is a lot harder than you would think!
  3. Astro     Reality has updated their AR Lunar,     and AR Solar system software. It is cool. I wish I were still a school teacher, that would be an incredible tool to have!
  4. I     have been using my Jabra headset so much. Lately,     it is a great noise canceling headset to have for your phone!

I will do another update in a few weeks. I have several upcoming reviews as well I keep running out of time to write them up.

  1. Hope very much that once your friend will find the strength to cope with her fear & publish new posts. Sure that this unpleasant situation will soon be forgotten in the Internet. As for your wonderful poll, my first computer was PC Windows, consider myself a fast talker, would love to speak to people in their native language.

    • I was told by Travis Blue yesterday that I speak too fast. Well, I wasn’t told, but the software was only able to buffer and translate about 1/2 of what I said. The help guide says “try speaking slower.”

        • himem.sys 🙂 I remember arguing with an Atari bigot back in the day. They were telling me better hardware was always the winner. I said it was the apps baby.

I still tease him about that from time to time.

        • I remember working at MSFT when the iphone launched. There was an arrogance about what and how things were going to change. MSFT, then, build a world of cheap hardware and expensive software. Suddenly that world was no longer viable. Plus, people wanted cheaper hardware that actually looked good.

Needless to say, the pocket pc phone, became the windows phone and then slowly disappeared.

  2. You talked about different topics. Apple is crazy successful. As for the post of your friend. You are right, we should be able to say anything, disagree but don’t take it personal.
