Miklavž, as we are usually called St. Nicholas, is certainly one of the most popular saints. He is especially pleased with the children when he walks around and brings presents to them on the evening before his age (December 5) – he rewards rewards, and he gives naughty punishments to his companions, the giants. The image of this saintly saint has been so vividly alive in us since childhood, more like the image of a little other saint. Many spend the day of St. Nicholas on the day of Christian charity: with material gifts they remember abandoned, poor and lonely children. Even in our families, children could open their hearts to the needs of the people around us on such occasions.

Is St Nicholas the Slovenian version of Santa Claus?? This is the first time I hear bout him
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear friend….no he is a great saint …. St. Nicholas (here we call him Miklavz) who swings on December 6th …. Santa Claus will still visit us … these are two completely different people …. strange that in Spain you do not know this tradition …. it comes from the Catholic faith
I do not know about him. In fact, I have never heard about St Nicholas and Spain is a very catholic country
That’s why it seems so weird to you that you’ve never heard of him …. it looks like the church is different in some countries too
This is a wonderful tradition! Here in Bulgaria, we eat fish on St Nicholas’ Day.
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear Ellie….very interesting … we have different traditions
In our country, this custom is very popular.
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear Vidocka….he really is very popular
All these old traditions are beautiful
I also like these customs very much, dear Vidocka
We must maintain them so that they will not become extinct.
Did he bring you anything? You were good, dear Vidocka?
I don’t know this custom but it looks like a nice custom. In a way he has visited me as my sister gave me a beautiful scarf already
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear Pamela…this is a very long tradition with us … yeah, that could be called if your sister gave you a scarf
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear friend
Thanks for your kindness, dear friend …. when you have time you will visit me already
I see that you wrote me a lot of comments and thank you very much for them, dear friend
I think St,Nicolas thinks I am naughty , he hasn’t visited me in a long time . 🙂
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear Dawn…if you were naughty I would bring you a stick
While I am not familiar with these customs, I can feel the joy in the air around Christmas and New Year.
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear friend….you do not know this custom?
I have many Christian friends but I am not familiar with all the customs.
I totally understand you, my friend …. I’m not with those around the new year, but I’m just up to date
I am familiar with St. Nicholas and his gifting but not the reasons behind this custom.
The reason for this custom, however, and I do not know exactly where or why … I only know that he was a great saint, dear friend
Oh ok. We know him more as Christmas Thatha meaning Christmas Grandpa in Tamil.
We have 3 good men who give us gifts in December – 1 is St. Nicholas (Miklavž) 2 is Santa Claus and 3 Grandfather Frost
My partner is Austrian and St Nick used to come to his house and scare he and his siblings when he was little (his uncle dressed up apparently).
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear Linda….St. Nicholas himself is not scary but his entourage is rather scary ….. naughty claws
We have Santa Claus in all the stores where children can sit in his lap and tell him what they want for Christmas
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear Sandra…this is also with us and very popular with children
saint nick appears all over Europe and its colonies…
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear friend….you are well aware … he is a great saint in Europe and very popular
hard to be more popular…
Santa Claus is more popular, dear friend
same guy, different name
You’re right … I think the difference in the color of the dress … St. Nicholas has a white dress and a stick …. Santa has a red dress and I don’t think he has a stick … that’s all the difference
We have Santa visit on Christmas day, December 25th.
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear Carol….we also have a visit to Santa at the time … this is the first of three good men to visit children …. the first is St. Nicholas, the second is Santa Claus and around New Year’s Eve Santa Claus
Yes We have this custom. Children just wait for Santa
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear Grace…yes only this is for christmas …. St. Nicholas is a godsend today and he is a great saint with us ….. in America you probably don’t know this custom
