Spring dreams ~ Black Hellebore

Black Hellebore is one of the few whose snow-white flowers delight us just when nature is resting. In some places, it was called the Snow Flower. Because many times when the winters are mild, it blooms in December before Christmas, it’s also called the Christmas flower. Directly from black or dark brown rhizomes – hence the name black bodies – driven by short and strong flower stalks sprinkled with reddish dots. Each stem usually carries only one flower. Cup hanging flowers consist of five broadly ovoid to round petals. These are snow-white in color and may later turn pink or greenish.
