I’ve always wondered. Why is there envy between people? Can someone answer me?
Envy has existed and will exist as long as there are people on earth. It began with Cain’s envy on his brother Abel. Envy is a negative, strong emotion, a mixture of sadness, anger and helplessness. Envy means recognizing that the envied person has the advantage, he is perhaps smarter, he has more friends, he has a successful professional life, and so on. Envious people can’t accept being overtaken by others, because no one deserves more than them! It is interesting that the envious envy those around them the most, because only with them they are in a permanent competition, only they cause them inner suffering, feelings of frustration, sometimes intense hatred, resentment and thoughts of revenge.
Just my thought today….
-
Have you ever been envious?

Yes

No

I thought carefully before answering ‘no’ to your question in the poll, Ileana. Why should I be envious? No matter how well I succeed at something, there will always be someone who succeeds better, so it is pointless and never-ending to be envious. I have had a wonderful life, had travels and experiences that few people have had. Now in my later years, I am not materially rich, but my memories are rich and my soul is rich with a warm loving family. What a waste of one’s life to be always envious of others. Thanks for posting this.
I think envious people don’t really know what they want. If I don’t have something someone does or I think they have a better life than me I think about if I really want things to change and if I do then how I could make the changes but I don’t waste my time envying them.
This question is very difficult to answer. I occasionally still feel this “incomprehensible” trait. And this from my loved ones.
I have been the victim of this disgusting human trait many times. Although I see no reason for that.
You’re right, envy is a strong and negative emotion. I think we all experience it thought at some time in our lives.
I have known many envious and jealous people and they are very unhappy. I have learned over the years life is too short for this behavior.
Well said, Carol. Life is too short to waste on negativity.
