Today in history is Pearl Harbor Day.
On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor Hawaii Territory, killing more than 2,300 Americans. The U.S.S. Arizona was completely destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma capsized. A total of twelve ships sank or were beached in the attack and nine additional vessels were damaged. More than 160 aircraft were destroyed and more than 150 others damaged.
A hurried dispatch from the ranking United States naval officer in Pearl Harbor, Admiral Husband Edward Kimmel, Commander in Chief of the United States Pacific Fleet, to all major navy commands and fleet units provided the first official word of the attack at the ill-prepared Pearl Harbor base. It said simply: AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NOT DRILL.
The following day, in an address to a joint session of Congress, President Roosevelt called December 7, 1941 “a date which will live in infamy.” Congress then declared War on Japan, abandoning the nation’s isolationism policy and ushering the United States into World War II. Within days, Japan’s allies, Germany and Italy, declared war on the United States, and the country began a rapid transition to a wartime economy by building up armaments in support of military campaigns in the Pacific, North Africa, and Europe.
A very sad day in history as many were tragically killed.

Nice image Carol, Isn’t it weird that it pitches up on the trending page now? Still, I know how you feel about Virily and are just as perplexed as the rest of us about the goings-on. Hope you and “the kids” are keeping warm and you are still flashing the 80 year’s old neighbor an occasional smile ???
Wow thanks for finding my old post Andre! Yes, I am confused here. Having a nice sunshine day today. Thanks. I did see my neighbor out earlier.
I know this event from school and also from film
I’m very grateful that I got a chance to see Pearl Harbor while living in Hawaii for 3 years.
I am sure you are Thomas. I would like to visit Hawaii.
Very beautiful place, but too dang expensive to fly out, plus get around.
I know this event from the film ….
Yes most have seen the film.
To be sure, I wasn’t born yet at that time… lol… and the only great picture to complete my historical knowledge about the event was the film “Pearl Harbor”.
I knew that my friend. I only learned through my ancestors and history class at school.
A gloomy day for the American people, they did not want a war or bombardment of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese forced them to enter World War I.
He did not repeat.
Yes indeed Robin. You are correct.
