Every year I make sure I have different colors of pansies in my garden. Cannot say which are my favorite color. I like the two colored ones, purple and yellow. And this soft orange is nice against the green foliage.
Continuing with Alibb’s Alphabet Crazy Challenge with the letter P.
They are very tough flowers, I am not sure how the name pansy came about for them. So I did some research. Interesting what I found out.
Pansies are one of the earliest flowering plants, blooming right alongside the spring bulbs. The name pansy is from the French word pensie, meaning thought or remembrance. The pansy is a delicate looking flower often with a “face”.
Now you know the rest of the story about pansies. Some of the blooms do look like a face. Very cool!

Congrats on 600,000 virils. Continue to set the pace on Virily.
Hum, very interesting information that I did not know. I love the little faces, and the purples are my favorite, although this is so sunny and happy looking.
I know you liked the purple ones, me too! Especially the ones with purple and yellow.
it is interesting because the name for the flower has been made into an insult.
I wonder about that.
lovely flower I hope you have enough spring and summer pictures of Dustins Garden to keep you warm through the winter!
Yes it really has, there is nothing about it to say it is a “pansy” for sure.
I have tons of flower pics, thanks Doc.
good hopefully you will share them over the long hard winter!
Lovely photo, I do like violets and pansies..
Thanks and the tiny violets are pretty as well.
I have tiny violets too, but are so small you can barely see them but if you pick them and put them into a vase they smell divine..
I like this soft orange pansy, it looks like soothing.
I am happy to learn more on Virily. Not only when I read posts from others, but when I want to write a post, I usually research for more, then I get to learn more. I am so grateful for this. 🙂
Thanks, it is one of my many favorites. You are welcome, I enjoy sharing.
That is a pretty colour. Good you researched and got the meaning of Pansy and letting us know.
Thanks, I love all the colors, but this one caught my eye in the garden.
I didn’t know the meaning of pansies, but I have noticed that they often have faces. They are a symbol of spring to me.
Isn’t it interesting to learn about nature around us! I have noticed with certain colors ( I will post more later), they do look like little faces. If you plant them from seed you can have them year round in some places.
This link talks about how to plant from seeds. I have never done this before. I think it may get too cold but I might give it a try….

Oh, that’s awesome, thank you so much for the link! I have never planted them or taken care of them, I think, but in my city, they plant them everywhere in the parks and gardens in spring;, they are the first flower that is massively planted here.
You are welcome, hope it helps.
Rachel, I hope you see this link. It explains how to grow pansies year round from seeds. I buy the plants already blooming at the local nursery for spring gardens.
Pansies are surprisingly hearty in cold weather, though. They’ll survive a frost, bouncing back from even single digit temperatures. If the blooms wither in the cold, the plants will often stay alive to bloom again, which makes them a great flowering plant for fall and early winter color.
Sorry, forgot the link, hope this helps…

A beautiful flower. I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing the info.
I always try to learn about the flowers in my garden, you are welcome!
I have other pics that shows the little pansy face as I call it, and others call it a face as well. Pretty cool. 🙂
Have we seen these pictures before? ? They have to be interesting.
Yes and I will post them again. Thanks for asking!
Very beautiful flower, you have a lot of patience in the garden to grow these wonderful plants.
Thanks, I like this color as well.
It does take patience but oh so worth it!
How much sun do pansies need in order to grow well?
Very little. They make great border plants and can grow in most conditions. I have even had these planted in the winter. Not sure why they are called pansies. They are very tough little plants.
Very nice macro flower, dear Carol
Thank you dear Lado. Have a good day!
With great pleasure, dear Carol …. you have a nice evening
Thank you my friend, sorry my comments are so long.
No problem, my dear friend
Dear Carol I had to laugh at the Google translator.
Your word pensie, has been translated into Serbian as the English word panties.
Now you guess what you can read when my English translates into English.
I can’t check every word. Some know, I look for some in the dictionary.
Panties, ha ha I just laughed.
Oh my gosh that is too funny! I can imagine that happens often with a translator.
No panties in my garden. 🙂
Watch it maybe if you do laundry in the yard.
But I laughed really well after a long time.
I laughed outloud when I read this. Too funny.
I always learn something new from virily from you posts.
thanks Carol DM
How kind of you to say thanks!
Carol DM I am just like that
