I was still wearing plaits and carrying a school bag when I entered the portals of the college where I knew there would be strangers. The moment I entered the gate there were a bunch of girls obviously seniors who started ragging me. They asked me if there was any mail for them looking at my school bag.
I got home and the first thing I did was that I discarded that bag changed my hair style and started carrying books in my hand although it was not easy as I had to travel by bus to get to my college.
The ragging went on for a few days. There was a day kept for newcomers to introduce themselves and we had to perform too. 4 of us got together and sang a song immediately there was a chorus from the seniors ‘Oh my what a silly song…………..’
But when it was my turn to be a senior I realised how fun filled it was to rag others!! Ragging is now banned as the modern generation does not know to what limits it can go.

First day at school when I went home I was beaten up and got no sympathy from anyone…at home I was told off for being late…
Life…
This is unbelievable. How could they do that to you. Such a tiny kid to be given that treatment is unacceptable.
Well, it is tough for some people I guess. Rich children always get better treatment.
It was not a pleasant reception. We have a similar tradition in our country
Ragging is banned here as what the present generation used to do was nothing but cruelty
My college introduction was very calm, maybe because we arent used to things like that where i live
That does not happen any more as ragging is now banned.
oh well that’s a more healthy environment
I heard some ragging stories in local universities, but I have not encounter any as I went to private college. I did enjoy my college days and made good friends there as well. I always think I am fortunate to meet good friends everywhere I went. 🙂
I too went to a college run by nuns and yes later the very same became our friends.
I did not immediately go to college after graduating from high school because I need to work. So, when I entered college, I am a couple of years older than my classmates. Besides, I entered a Catholic School so I did not experience being ragged.
I too joined a college run by nuns (lol)
I went to a private university and we were all treated as adults and one and the same. I never really made any friends and kept to myself.
Have you changed since then – do you have friends now?
My college life was boring because I was not active in school activities.
I understand that as unless one takes part in the various activities a college offers life there could be boring.
You as a teacher are doing the right thing. Not all can take ragging specially not these days when it can go to any extreme.
I would never rag or bully anyone. I was bullied in high school and it is mean and ugly
Depends how harmless the ragging would be. During our time it was mild
Never ragged or bullied anyone.
Those days it was not like what they did these days
I was very shy and much younger than others when I attended college. I stayed to myself.
We had a rule about age here. No one could be admitted before they were five to the first standard.
I never liked going to school, dear Grace … I never went through college doors
I was not comfortable in college as many came from other schools and took me a long time to get to know them.
But you’re a more shy person? … I’ve never had a problem with this … I’m a very flexible person … I get to know people quickly
I have never ragged anybody. Maybr in primary school during my last year. I was a bit naughty until my name was entered in a black book. The effects of peer pressure.
I’m usually against that at where I am teaching. Whenever a new student joins where I teach, I tell the whole class to introduce their names and where they come from.
